mfo Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 I was fishing a sandpit today with bluebird high pressure coming in 66degree water with about a 8 degree drop from the day before, bucks were on beds in about 1-3 ft water crystal clear water at least 10ft. visibility . My question is where do the females go in this situation there is no submerged or visible cover no creek channel no points to speak of mostly round with a few islands .I could of caught all the bucks I wanted but that gets old, I fished the first breaks off the "flats" down to 13ft. with a jig, shakeyhead cranks, jerkbait, plastic, everything you name it where in the hell do these fish go with high pressure comes in,I don't even mark fish suspended, when the weed growth gets going a little they go there but there is very little weed growth this time of yr. Any ideas? mark Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted May 11, 2009 Super User Posted May 11, 2009 I'm assuming that you've caught/seen big bass there before, right? That being said, I'm also assuming you are fishing from a boat and have a quality sonar onboard. I'd start by looking deeper over the second or third break. Yeah, I know you said there wasn't anything down there, but there is. You just have to find it. A one or two foot break is sometimes all that's required to hold a bass....especially after a penetrating cold front. Also, have you ever marked any bait balls? If you can find bait cruising around the same locations, you will usually find bass there as well. When you do, try presenting a drop shot. That's about all I can come up with. Good Luck! Quote
HAMMER23 Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 What part of the country are you in, I would like to try to answer your question but hear in southeast texas the sandpits warm up before the lakes and the spawn is long gone. Quote
mfo Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 I am in nebraska, we have perty much had water in the mid to high 50's in most lakes until last week when I know the water was close to 70 in this pit due to 4-5 days of daytime temps around 75.then a cold front came in and the daytime air temps was about 60 for a high on this day in question. MY friend who fishes this lake had just caught a couple of big girls up close during the warm weekand the bucks are up shallow so you know we are in early spawn. It is like I said I could have caught all the bucks I wanted but I am more interested in where the females or any bigger fish for that matter go when you get high pressure with this kind of lake mark Quote
