champlain-champ Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 im curious if anyone has ever created a fishing spot im thinking about trying this in a small lake near my house for local tournaments. i was thinking of using pallets making cubes out of them putting a cinder block in the center and dropping about 4-5 cubes in about 12- 15 ft of water. either that or making spikes out of pvc i can get 20ft sticks threw a hardware store for around 3 bucks and i was going to wire 6 pieces together to make a 4 foot spike kind of thing if i spent around 100 bucks i could make a whole artificial reef in 15 feet of water any ideas? i know you shouldnt pollute the water and just keep it natural but why do they have the bill dance spikes then? and pvc doesnt rot so it shouldnt harm the water correct? a friend of mine told me that they dragged about 14 spruce tree's out in champlain near point au rouche and created a hedge row in 13 feet of water and he seems to win most tournaments in mid summer by flipping those tree's ( i wish i could find them lol ) Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 7, 2009 Super User Posted May 7, 2009 Also, you can use milk creates...anything that doesn't pollute, and creates structure. Quote
frogtog Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Half of my brain is full of spots I created in the last forty years. : Quote

JuniorFisherJJ08 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 We own 3 Different Ponds, man made. the largest is Mainly stocked with bass the other 2 with bluegill and cats. What we did was drop roughly 280 Pine trees combined. In about 4 different sections in the bass pond. After 2 Years we noticed a lot of fish hanging around them so we added 2 more spots. We now constantly Catch and Release 3-8lbers. Which is quite large for Ohio to catch constantly. Its always a great day fishing at them and use it as a "Confidence boost" after a bad day at the lake .. Anything that doesn't Pollute would be a great idea. Just make sure you want it there for sure, cause once they are there they are near impossible to remove. Quote
CODbasser Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 making rock piles is also easy..you can just go to the shore and load the boat up with rocks and sink them where ever....the only problem is you have to sink a whole crap load of them to actually make a pile.. Quote

umahunter Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 you can make them from 3 pallets like a triangle an if you wanna make em more hook proof you can rip down some pvc pipe and put it on the underside of the slates with some stainless screws or leave em off and every now an then dive down and collect lures Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 7, 2009 Super User Posted May 7, 2009 m curious if anyone has ever created a fishing spot im thinking about trying this in a small lake near my house for local tournaments. Wouldn't that be unfair to other competitors? Ok for personal use I guess, but for a tournament I would call it cheating. Quote
Chris Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I always just tied to an already sunken tree or brush and dragged it where I wanted it. If it was a good spot i would build it like a wall of brush in a circle or triangle and sat in the middle and was able to reach all of it from one spot. Quote

HAMMER23 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 If u havn't created any you dont know what you are missing out on, i have over 60 spots on t-bend and they all hold bass, the remarkable thing is how fast bass will be drawn to this cover, it does not take very long at all. I know several tourament fisherman on rayburn and they pound similiar spots like mine and really do well off of them. U would be suprised how many tourny fisherman do this and keep these spots top secret. U should absolutely do the same asap and u will have the exact same results. start sinkin and tell us how your luck changes, I would really like to know!! PS: FIND A SPOT THAT IS YOUR OWN AND DONT TELL ANYONE. And if anyone considers this cheating then half the fisherman on rayburn cheat. I believe is just like a artificial reef in the ocean, it provides cover, a food source, and when it comes down to it those bass wont hook themselves, you still have to be on your game and figure out the bite and then deliver. they wont just jump in your boat, I say go for it !!! MSPbass Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 check your regulations can be illegal in some states (mine i believe) ebby - you think Christmas trees are included in that? Quote
bigtimfish Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 no, but i want to. get an old crappy table, drills some holes in the top. weight the legs, and pvc the edges. maybe make a false pvc tree stick up out of the middle of it.why wouldnt it work? you got the fake tree and a shelf for the fish to hide under. -ebby- Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 i think when i looked at doing it you couldn't put anything in unless you ok'ed it with the dnr- but i could be wrong Quote
-ebby- Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 i just looked through the regulations for MN but couldn't seem tho find anything about it, i sent an email off to find out Quote
dmac14 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Where do i find if it is legal? And I would not consider it cheating, just an unfair playing field. Quote

Personally, I'd go with pvc to make it relatively snag proof. Quote
