Rich K Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Just wondering if anyone on this board has had any experience getting a reproduction from Wildlife Creations - this is the company that BassPro uses. From what I have seen in the stores, they do a good job. Here are the examples they have posted on the BPS site. What are your opinions of their work? Thanks, Rich Quote
Mattlures Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Their work looks good. Not world class or competition winning good but respectable. When you consider the price I like thier product. I feel your getting a good value. You can definatly find better taxidermists but I highly doubt you will find much better at those prices. Also I have seen ALOT worse at higher cost. The one downside I have heard about them is thier mounts are generic. Meaning thepaint jobs all look the same and they dont realy match your fishes exact markings. Now in reality most taxidermists dont do a very good job of matching individual fish either. This does not mean that the mounts look bad at all. If I was on a budget I wouldnt have a problem with the Bass pro mounts. Quote
Jay_G Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I have had 4 fish done. I think they do a decent job. Here is a double that they did for me a couple years ago. Quote
Mattlures Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 El Grande I looked at your picture but I dont see the fish? Oh wait I had to come back and edit my post. After staring at the pic for a couple more minutes I started to see some fish shapes in the back ground. I had to focuss realy hard and your right. There are fish in the pictures!! Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted September 7, 2008 Super User Posted September 7, 2008 those bass look very generic. they dont look all to realistic either... the colors dont look much like a natural bass, it seems like they have a specific set of colors that they use on every bass and they all look identical. i wouldnt get BPS to taxidermy my trophy catch... Super User .dsaavedra. Posted September 7, 2008 Super User Posted September 7, 2008 by the way, i'm not ragging on your fish El Grande, those are awesome catches im just not too fond of the taxidermy. :-/ Quote
PlasticsJunkie Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 I've heard good things about King Sailfish Replica Mounts. Each mount is individually air-brushed to match the photo you send with them. But, I haven't used them myself either, this is just hearsay. Quote

The paint job is actually right on. If you compare the replica to photo, they did pretty good. When you are from IN and catch a fish of this size, and skin mounts are out of the question for me, these are pretty close. I keep photos on the wall near the fish so when I tell the story, I can point to the live fish and relate that the fish was released unharmed and the replica is a salute to the fish and memory made when it was caught. Easy Matt ;D I know my photography skills aren't great, but come on That's my oldest. Quote
paul. Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 man those are some real toads there el grande! very cool man. i have seen some of w.c.'s work and it's not bad at all - especially for the price. there are some little things you notice once you study their mounts for a while, but no really glaring errors. definitely not going to find much, if any, better work for that price. Mattlures Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 No disrespect meant at all. I was guessing she might be your daughter but I didnt say anything just incase she was your wife. Man having beautiful daughters must be verry stressful!! I have a 3 year old little girl and I am not looking forward to when she starts liking the boys. As for your mounts, I have seen bass with those colors. Bass come in many different shades from almost all silver to blck to bright green and everything inbetween. I see nothing wrong with the coloration of your mounts. If anybody is looking for world class work check out Lyon's and Ohaver's or Robert's fish mounts. They are about as good as they get but they cost a little more. Of course IMO they are worth it. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted September 8, 2008 Super User Posted September 8, 2008 Also worth checking out is Advanced Taxidermy out of Canada. With my mother being a wildlife artist (one of the best in the world) I have seen more outdoor art in my lifetime than anybody really should, lol. But when I came across their booth I was absolutely and fully amazed by what they do. When I get my 15 plus I'm gonna sell a kidney and have them do it for me ;D Quote
Rich K Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 I have had 4 fish done. I think they do a decent job. Here is a double that they did for me a couple years ago. I am pleasantly surprised at the detail of the edge of the fins. Looking at their examples on the BPS site looked like the fins were an after thought. Hey El Grande - do you mind posting the photos you mentioned of the live fish? That might help give us all an idea of how close they color matched. Thanks! Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted September 9, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted September 9, 2008 I had Lake Fork Taxidermy do my replicas. I sent pics and measurements and WOW! Great job! www.lakeforktaxidermy.com/ Quote

The top fish on the mount. A little yellow from some dirty water. I thought the match was pretty good. Quote

Muad Dib Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 ya i think i like that site the best. the skin mounts and replicas are hard to tell apart. i think thats what is going to be a deciding factor for me when i get my mount done. there my number one pick so far. i dont mind spending an extra few bucks for something as important to me as this is. ;D Quote
