One was a catch and one wasn't-of which I was real happy.  First the catch:

I was fishing an electrics only lake and was fishing a flooded tree on the far side.  I pitched a jig-n-pig into the tree, felt a thump, and set the hook.  From the way it pulled I knew it was a BIG fish-and it was.    Turned out ot be a 20 lb flathead cat.

Now the non-catch:

A couple weeks ago I went with a buddy to some stock tanks (Farm ponds) south of town.  As I was reeling in a watermelon candy brush hog it went over aome matted weeds on the surface and a 3-4 foot allogator grabbed it.  Fortuately it only grabbed the tail-not the hook!

My friend lives on a canal and he called me one day and told me to come over and help him catch this crockadile and get it moved somwhere eles so i brought over a penn international a dolphin jr. and a hunk of baracudda. Anyways i casted it rite next to him and he attacked it. Well when we got it up we called the Wild life and fish commision to come get it well they sent about 5 cops over and they told us that if we had purposley done it that would land us in jail so we told them we were bass fishing.

I was sitting in my boat before the sun had come up one morning. While waiting for it to lighten up a little bit,I threw a topwater bait out on a long cast trying to get the line straightened out on that particular baitcaster.I was in 10 ft of water, working furiously on my line by flashlight.I heard a big splash in the direction of the topwater that had just been sitting stil for a couple of minutes .I reeled in the slack and had a fish on.When I got it in it was a 3-4 lb. channel cat.

There was a story on the news the other night about a bass fisherman in Vermont catching a 9" Oscar....the F & G people weren't happy. They said that populations have been established in Florida that have taken over the waterways where they're established. Those thing are eating machines.

My weirdest catch happened when I was about 8. I was fishing off my dock, and my dad was up on a ladder painting. I went to cast a big old Heddon River Runt...remember them? As I brought the rod forward, it stopped, followed immediately by the most pitiful howling ever heard.....I turned and saw my Beagle's ear standing straight out, with four out of six of the trebles buried.....I started screaming, my dad almost fell off the ladder trying to get down to see what the Hell was going on....neighbors came running....dad had to drive 50 miles round trip to a vet to get the hooks out...the dog wouldn't come near me for weeks, and never set foot on that dock again....I also had a bat tangle in my line while fishing cut bait for striped bass with my rod in a spike holder.....cut that line quick...that bat was not happy......

a long time ago I was tossing a crankbait for LMB, but there are some SMB in the lake too. I hooked something huge, that was making long, fast runs. When it got toward the surface, I could see a brownish tint, so I assumed an Arizona State Record SMB. Sadly, I had snagged a big carp in the tail.

I've caught frogs and other usual wetlands type of animals.  The one catch that stands out in my mind is when I reeled in a 3 pound LM and while taking the hook out of his mouth discovered a leader.  With the fish lipped in one hand and the leader in the other I slowly pulled out a 6 inch brush hog with an exposed rusty hook out of his gullet.  I was amazed the hook didn't snag his insides (gut) at all while in there.  The brush hog was discolored and was starting to break down.  The legs and arms of the hog were nubs.  Strange days indeed.

i have caught lots of weird thing like turltles, frogs and i once i got a bowfin

but me craziest catch would be a seagull i was fishing on a pier in lake erie and when anybody catches a gobie they need to be killed so they are thrown to the gulls but any way i was fishing a lipless crank and got a hit and when i set the hook i missed the fish and it flew up out of the water and just about hit me it landed a  couple feet from the seagulls and before i could do anything one grabbed it and hooked it self so i just slashed the line and watched the seagull fly away with my crank

Two weekends ago my buddy chucked a buzz bait up into some timber and had about a 5 pounder just explode on it.

After the hook was set it hung up on a stump.

My buddy let out some line so the fish could swim out. As soon as that fish moved a otter ripped it off the line and swam about 60 yards, crawled up on the bank and ate it like a piece of corn on the cob.

Still had a purple buzzbait in his mouth.

A baby aligator is the wierdest thing I have hooked. I was fishing a farm pond and was working a jointed rapala along the edges of a weed bed close to the shore. I didn't notice the little critter hiding in the weeds. As I got the lure close to where he was he lunged at it and hooked himself. I reeled him up to the dock I was standing on, lifted him out of the water and removed the hook. He was only about a foot long so I didn't have any fear about grabbing him.

bowfin/dogfish.  i caught one when i was 10 that was around 20 inches.  my mother caught one in NY last fall, 22 inches, and this past spring i caught a 24 incher!  so i've caught two dogfish now.  the 24 incher was a monster, cast into some thick weeds and just let it sit for a bit.  never felt it hit, but when i went to pull it in i felt a HUGE tug.  i thought it was just snagged at first, but then it happened again.  weird thing was when i gave it slack, it didn't move.  it took about 15 minutes to finally get it out of the weeds and until i saw it surface i thought it was a musky or pike.  boy was i upset when i saw what it was............

so my mom goes fishing w/ me and my dad in a small row boat.  we got out fishing for 3 hours, and catch literally nothing.  mom had a real nice fishing pole that dad bought for her, but dad was using it and just told mom to use the junk one.  so she complained about the pole all day.  so we head in and she gets out of the boat and onto the dock.  dad and i are cleaning things up, so she just drops her line in the water w/ less than 1/4th of a nightrawler on it.  next thing we know she's screaming.  i look over and her pole is bent and drag is ripping out.  she got the dogfish to the surface and i netted it w/ a very old net and got it onto the dock.  she screamed again and ran up to the cabin.  it thrashed the old net into pieces so me and my brother were holding it down, each of us w/ two hands.  he repositions because he's losing grip on it, and as he does, it wiggles loose, between his legs and starts flopping towards the end of the dock.  i go over my brother and scoop it back into the middle of the dock, and my fiance gets back w/ a real net.  funniest thing ever, true story.  all that for a picture.......

oh yea, i forgot about the time when i was really young and said the famous words "watch this".  sure enough, the duck wanted my worm and the hook went through his beak.  it flapped around and made some weird noises until it shook itself free.  scared the crap out of me.

Okay, weird story. My friend and I used to tie huge magnets on our poles when this reservoir we used to fish alot was low. We'd drag them across the bottom and reel them back slowly retrieving old lures that were on the bottom, and various other metal objects. Anyhow, there used to be alot of ducks in this reservoir. One day, we're out there dragging magnets, and a huge group of ducks comes swimming by, but like sixty feet out from where we were. And believe me, you can cast those big magnets VERY far. So I fling one out there, and right into the group of ducks, scattering them......all except for one. I actually hit one of them in the head, knocking it out, and somehow it gets tangled around this poor little duck. So I actually reeled in this limp duck that probably feels like he went a round with Mike Tyson. My friend behind me, rolling around, laughing his butt off. But I untangled him, and set him on the bank. It wasn't any more than two minutes, when he woke up, extremely confused, and stumbled his way back into the water. Very funny scene. And Duck, if you ever read this, I'm very sorry! :'(

Sorry all but I had to bring this one back up! LOL! I fished a small community pond this evening. I caught 5 small bass and this little monster. I was fishing a 5" Kinami Flash when I felt a tick so I set the hook and all I felt was a little grass. So I reeled the bait in and this is what I found. I think I laughed for at least 5 minutes after I CPR'd this bad boy! LOL!

My brother and I were fishing a pond one time and we had been catching a few bass.  Things got a little slow and I hear this splashing underneath a willow tree.  There was no way to get a bait under it.  So I said to myself, since I can't go underneath I'll go through the top.  I casted my jignpig up in the air and it crashed down in the tree.  I peeled off some line and it went straight down to the water and as soon as it hit the water, the water boiled and I said man I've got a bite.  I set the hook pretty hard and what I thought was a fish went about 20 feet in the air and then landed on the ground between my brother and me.

Turns out it was a big old frog. The frog looked like someone shot him out of a cannon.  I thought I was gonna have to take my brother to the hospital he was laughing so hard.  Since I practice catch and release, I released the frog.

Then since I didn't get hung up I threw back into the tree and caught another one on the next cast.  My brother was useless for the rest of the day.  :D ;D :D ;D

The only thing other thing i've caught instead of a bass while bass fishing was a 3lb flathead catfish.   He was caught on a 3" Kalins grub.   I don't think that's too crazy though since flatheads will usually only take live bait.

On back to back trips, my wife caught the biggest bullforg I've ever seen, followed by a 4' copperhead. The bullfrog was kinda fun. THE SNAKE WAS NOT! Both were caught on a 4' senko. Before the next outing, I was compelled to tell her; fishing, dear, we're going fishing. Not reptiling. She was not amused.

Good luck to all,

Cat.

No, not a catfish.

A cat.

Hey, I did that also.

I almost peed my pants laughing about it later.  It was fun and sad all at the same time.

It was mostly my fault, There was this cat on a ramp that went down to the dock I was fishing, I had a jig a pig tied on.  I flipped the jig up onto the dock to see if the cat would come down the ramp.  Well he did, and the jig was caught on a sliver or something, and the cat grabbed it before I could pull it away.  He grabbed it and went for the ramp, I free spooled it hoping he would let go of it but he headed for the house.  I flipped the reel in and the fight was on.  I dragged him screaming and clawing all the way down the ramp and on to the dock.  I had to wrap him in my coat to get the hook out.  God I'm glad the people that owned him didn't hear or see what happened, I would have been sued for sure. :o

A dead half digested 5" perch

I was just beginning to fish senkos earlier this summer and didn't have the technique down yet.  After I casted my senko into the water I let it sit for about 10 seconds.  When I went to initially twitch it I felt a fish on so I set the hook pretty hard.  After getting the bass 1/2 way to the boat my line just went dead.  After loosing the bass, I reeled in the rest of my line and to my surprise there was a dead perch attached to my hook!

I have had quite a few!!  Have caught a Talapia on a lake in Lakeland FL on a redshad culprit.  Caught the biggest bluegill of my life on a rapala shadrap in bluegill color!!  Hooked a gator before and caught numerous mudfish or dogfish, whatever ya'll call 'em.  My buddy and I used to intentionally fish for those!  They put up a helluva fight!  If ya wanna try it use a bright (white with pink tail) grub anywhere in the south on still water fished texas style.  Big fun when you're messin around!
