I read alot of posts from you guys who say they have fished on this tour, BFL, FLW, BASS events and etc...   As with any local tournament that I follwed, I like to see how my friends are doing.  It would be nice to say, Oh, I know of that guy, he posts on the forum I'm on.  How come no one wants to put their name out there?

What do you have to hide?  Some of you guys know  each others names already, but most don't.    Its kinda like seeing 20 pros on tour from Texas,  Most being guides from Fork,  I can say I knew of these guys before they made it.  I don't think they allow these pros to enter under the name of circle_hook_guy or rod_bender.  Just wondering why?

It doesnt matter to me whose who. All i Know is this forum is managed by Glenn to be the best on the internet. And among its members are very knowledgable people who share their knowledge and a lot of humor with even the most casual of fisermen such as myself For this I am very grateful. Even if I di get to know a pro, id still be a weekend fisherman happy with a few 2 pounders and a day on one of Gods lakes

So I take it all you guys fish semi Pro or pro.  Since you guys responded.  THanks anyway.    Its not about knowing a pro, its about rooting for pros, as i said.  I root for the PB & J guys like my other post said.  I wished I was R Clunn.   i wouldn't be here.

Got to watch you LBH,  I see who you aspired to be, Roland Martin,  You like to stretch little fish into big fish.  Sorry boys,  I am Matt Fly and no one else,  Nothing to hide.

I know some of you guys respond with first names to each and guess they have earned the right to know your names.

Dad always said ask, it can't hurt, at least I tried.

My name is Russ, when people refer to me as such on here, it just means we've talked either through pm's, email, or phone. After talking 1 on 1 with someone, you feel kinda dumb calling them "senko77" or such so you ask their name and next thing you know, it gets used in a post and others learn it etc.

As for tourny fishing, I'm no pro. I belong to a group that does a very original type of competition.

I fish in a "league" that we call "the clearwater challenge". We are primarily made up of people who became uninterested in the politics associated with club fishing. Some guys are retired club fisherman who may not want to fish a whole scheduled season, etc but anyway, this is how it works.

The organizer (Bill) has a list of 17 , 2man teams. He makes the call on wed night to each team captain and announces the time , price and place for saturday morning. Entry is never less than $100/person and never more than $250. $200 is taken off the top of the pot for the bbq or breakfast after weigh in. The rest is divided for $200 big bass, and 1-4 place payouts. Now 34 guys x 250 minus bbq and big bass, leaves one heck of a payout.

Here's the catch.

It's alot like this forum and it's creator. This is Bills game, and Bill makes the rules. These guys, regardless of the money, are here for the comeraderie, the great fishing, and for recreation. Many guys are retired and they see it as a day on the golf course or a friendly fishing tournament, either way, they are going to spend the $150 for the day and don't care if it's here or at the casino as long as they have a good time. There are no fights, quarrels etc. What Bill says goes and if that's a problem, you're not invited back. Real simple. This was our 2nd year and not one incident in both seasons. Great guys, great times, and opportunities to fish other new england lakes and even make some money. The clearwater part is because Bill only pics high quality, clear water impoundments.

However, to my partner and I, this is more of a huge fishing expedition than a tournament. I don't see myself as a tournament angler for there is no ranking, points sytem, etc. I see it more like fish-gambling. :) Either way, it keeps the fun in it.

I do, however, belong on a team that competes regularly in many inshore and offshore saltwater tournaments. Usually, tuna, shark, or striper tournys. In this right, I would consider myself a tournament angler, but not freshwater. I don't take the time/research and cash investment for fresh that I do for salt although the passion burns just as brightly.

Yea, so,...that's me. Russ

Hey Matt, As it is with everyday fishing. Usually to get a secret, you got to give one. Our names are our "honey holes" on this thread. In a way you receive great info. because of it. Ghost writers , as it were! But since you insist...My real name is Jose Hemanez!

I appreicate the info,  I myself, love the weekend tournaments,  I fish anything my partner can afford.  I have fished Honey Hole, Media Bass, BassChamps, The 2ofUS, A lot of big bass splash tourneys,  my favorite was also a club out of Austin, Buster Brown (all of us worked at UPS), Honey Hole affilliated,  about 22 teams. I like the competition, and in Texas, there are a lot of trails with guys like ourselves,  who have grown up on these waters,  tough competition.  Its fun to win, but its about the comeraderie.  I wish each of you lots of luck and may your next cast be your new PR.

PS

I have always said knowledge is a terrible thing to waste.   I will always help anybody new on a lake with patterns even if I am competing against them.  A lot of new people zero at the tourneys,  they always look for info at the weigh in, with no help coming from the local tightlips.  I believe you don't have to give them your spots, but a few colors and how to rig them will get them started.  Payouts are usually figured by the number of teams.  The more teams, the better the tourney and more paid out spots.  With that being said, anytime someone needs help on a Texas lake, I will always try to help.  I spent 14 yrs in  San Diego Ca. in the navy.  I have had some good water to fish there.  But would not give up my Texas waters for the lower Cali waters.  I threw my first plug, as my dad called it, on Lake Amistad when i was 6.  Been doing it ever since with more passion as I get older,  The flame burns strong and long.  I can't sleep sometimes weeks out before a good tourney.

Instead of Pond Pro, puddle jumper sounds good.

Those are 2 names we refered to the Coast Guard as.  After all, anytime the Capt. wanted a depth check, someone would stick a broom handle over the side to see how deep it was.  Unlike the Navy, we didn't think the Coasties ventured to far offshore.LOL

You have inspired me to change my signature. :)

Matt, You know that some of the best fishermen in the world don't fish profesionally. They are right here telling the things they know to those of us who need to know.

I fish Illinois Bass Federation Region 2. I don't pay out of pocket for my tournaments. I fish club and open tournaments also.<~Does this make me better fishermen...no! Being on this site and teaching you something you didn't know makes me a better fishermen because most will not take the time. ;)
