ProCrafter Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Here is my take on the week.... Got in at noon on Sunday...of course a little put off when one of the first things I hear on the radio as I am driving out that there is a tornado warning for the area!! (it would go for a few days too!!) and also dodging the Deer and dead Turkeys all over the roads!! The surrounding area looked just like all the Hunting shows looked like when I would watch them on Saturday morning this past winter. Went to the shoreline with a jig and a shakey head just prior to the welcoming registration and caught three fish!! signs of things to come! Monday got out with Cart7t and it was windy but we hit a main lake point and threw carnks for several fish then went inside the resort bay and loaded up on fish!! each boating 12 to 15 fish on Cranks..(Cart7t) and shakey heads/jigs.....alot of subkeepers with a few 15+ inchers for good measure! Tuesday Long Mike had set up me and Simp to use his boat for the day..."The Pimp Wagon"...never have I seen a Tracker get a fully integrated GPS system...fuel is even tracked on it!! and it is alarmed into the compartments!! indications Mike is very good to his boat!! Thanks again for the opportunity! We hit an inside winded bay for 45 mins then decided to hit the Rip Rap with crankbaits and proceded to load up on Crankbait fish!! Brown Craw pattern seemed to work the best and you got whacked when they hit!! we made five drifts through there!! and still I had to go back for a few hours after we went in to fish it from shore and brought 8 more fish in!! Wednesday Long Mike took me across the lake downstream to a bay where we hit various contours and features just hit or miss...I got my first on a crankbait, then another on a trap, two-6 more on a Shakey Head and lost a toad 4 pounder flipping some brush in less than 1 ft. of water!! litterally hung the fish suspended for two minutes as we tried to get the boat over there to get to her till the line broke.....as we ate junch Mike looked down and saw a fish fanning a bed!! he worked it for 10-12 minutes and it didnt look with any interest so he asked me if I wanted a shot so I threw a Texas Rigged lizard in Green Pumpkin in there repeatedly for ten mions or so and saw the tell tale flareing of the gills and set up on a three pounder only to have it come off at the boat!! (The earliest Bed Fish for me!!) We came off the water as the wind got goin again and lucky we did as mikes boat got stuck in reverse at the launch! I still, of course managed my usual trip to th shoreline for another ten or so fish!!! Thursday was with CJ and man....That guy drives that Legend pretty dang fast!! I gave him my usual "Im a Speed Puss" speech but he said.."Nothin to worry bout this boat is stable" not to mention he is a classy guy and gave me a break on the rough stuff! The lake was pretty calm that day as we worked main lake and secondary points...he picked off 4-5 before I got my first one!! and he just kept on teaching me how the fish were positioning, what they were feeding on and his observations as he problem solved...I felt like I was in the boat with Rick Clunn!!! it is good to see someone so versed in his fishery and having such a passion for the sport!! we each caught 25+ fish with several 15+ inchers in the mix! Along with getting to see the sheer beauty of the lake!! Thanks alot CJ!!!! Friday was a little stormy and when the soreness of all the fishing had caught up..saying goodbye is never fun but knowing we will all meet again is comforting not to mention we are all just a click away!! P.S. Yes...I did go out on Friday afternoon and caught another 8 fish !!! Here is a few shots of the trip.... The view from Kenlake One of the points... Baby Turtles!!! One of the Shore Busters... The Marina Hole! Cypress Tree. Long Mike... Some of the Gang... MMMMMMM.....Dinner!! Scene of the crime...Lost 4 lber in there!! One for the Ladies!! Keeper!! Ode to the Yard Bird!! Parting Shot.... Super User cart7t Posted April 18, 2009 Super User Posted April 18, 2009 Here's the google earth view of the marina hole! The water was up to the darker grey rocks in the google earth shot. From the gangway to the dock all the way around to the boat ramp was lights out fishing all week. Tuesday evening before the dinner, I went down to the boat to hook up the charger and stood on the gangway and proceeded to make 6 casts and catch 6 fish. The largest, a keeper 15" on the first cast. I have no idea how many fish were taken off that short stretch of rocks during the week but it was a LOT! Quote

Fisher of Men Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Any idea where next year's event will be? Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 26, 2009 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 26, 2009 Nope, not yet. I'll make an announcement was a decision has been made. Trust me, I have no intentions of keeping it a secret! Quote
Pitchinkid Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 not to sound to nosey or anything, but how excatley do you decide? Is it a moderator vote or do you just pick one out of a hat. I know you check on accomidations and pricing of course but i just wanted to know what or who gets the final call or is it a democratic vote. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 27, 2009 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 27, 2009 Heavy research and input from the whole BR staff (Keri, Long Mike, Alpster, Ghoti, and the Mod Squad). Some of that reasearch involves in-person inspection of possible locations. Ideally we all come to a consensus, but I reserve the right to veto. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted April 27, 2009 Super User Posted April 27, 2009 Selecting a site for the next road trip is a very scientific process. We blindfold Glenn, spin him around a couple of times, and then he throws a dart at a map of the U.S. BS aside, trying to select the right venue grows more complicated each year because the number of attendees almost doubles each year. For next year's trip, Glenn has proposed a number of criteria that must be met. For example, there must be a lake nearby. Sorry, I couldn't help it. In reality, there are about thirty criteria that will be used to select the next venue. Obviously some of them carry more importance than others. Again, for example, close access to a marina or boat ramp carries much more importance than close access to boat repair facilities. In short, we are already working on next year's trip; but please be patient. It will take several months. It all starts with an internet search, but in the long run, the most promising sites will be visited personally by a member carrying his check-list. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted April 27, 2009 Super User Posted April 27, 2009 Just rumor that I heard on the road trip..... after a rigorous examination of all the lakes involved, checks of seasonal patterns of fish on the lakes along with a biological study of fish populations, Glenn and the mods go into seclusion and when the black smoke comes out of the chimney, the final selection for the next road trip is made. The selection is then handed to Keri who tears it up and then makes the actual choice with the basic criteria being which lodge has the best in-room blow dryers and firmest mattresses. :ducking: Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted April 27, 2009 Super User Posted April 27, 2009 Glen, don't tell Keri, but blow driers aren't on our check list. Quote

simplejoe Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I didn't think KY Lake was that bad besides the parking at the lodge. Everybody there made there boat fit one way or another. joe Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted May 5, 2009 Super User Posted May 5, 2009 Joe, with respect, Kenlake lodge was the most boater unfriendly place I've ever been to. Yes we all managed to get our boats parked (on the muddy lawn) and yes, most of us were able to recharge our batteries from only three outlets. Unfortunately, I was one of the unlucky ones whose outlet failed. After two hours on the water the next day I had no power to my TM. If it weren't for the foresight of several members who had with them over 400' of extension cords and splitters, it would have been a disaster. For that reason, and others, I believe that Glenn will confirm that Kenlake Lodge will never again be the site of the annual BR get-together. Quote
