Basser89 and I got out to a local pond today hoping for the best with some strange weather conditions surrounding us. He and I landed more than 20 bass with the largest going 7lb 13.5oz. Thanks for the outing basser.

Thanks again for the invite MskSlyr! I had a ball!

Hey Wayne, we caught all our bass on a variety of baits (we started at first light). Buzzbaits, frogs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, lizards, stick baits and jigs. Had to have a pretty quiet entry so I'm not sure how well some of those tanks you have would have done.  :)   I actually wanted to try some of the hollow bodied swimbaits I have but forgot to bring them.  :-[

Great catch. where is this pond located it, if you don't mind me asking? Is it a private pond?

Much appreciated all. Lee unfortunately it is a private pond in Frederick County and there is only a handful of people that are allowed in to fish it. The majority of the people that fish there don't seem to be able to have the same success with the large bass so I am fortunate to have figured out some good patterns.

Hey Paul,

This particular pond has some extremely deep pockets in comparison to its size (done purposely by the owner many years ago) We have found that during post front conditions the better quality fish can be found on the outlying areas surrounding these 3 particular pockets. The slower the baits the better in most cases and held tight to the bottom with movement just not in the extreme variety. With a lot of the plastics I use for this just shaking them ever so slightly in place does the trick.

Hmmm, sounds like a great place to drag a Hudd through or jig a bluegill swimbait.....

Yes, yes indeed....   ;D

Yea Speedbead i have heard of your fascination with swimbaits from Basser. I don't use them a lot except for muskies myself but I do enjoy using the very large Delong series of plastics. Caught quite a few bass on the Castaics years ago but have not wanted to invest the coin in anything recently.

Great fish. Was it skinny? That frame sure looks like it could support more than 8 pounds.

I think I can speak for MskSlyr on this one since I was there.  ;)

She was actually pretty thick. but (as the pic shows) did taper off so she'll definitely be putting on more weight! Wish I could see her in the spring but the land owner doesn't allow anyone to fish the pond until well after the spawn is over. I wasn't too far off on my guestimate on the weight before he weighed her. I guessed 7 1/2. If I had to take a swag at a prespawn weight, I'd say she'll be somewhere around 9-9 1/4. Just a guess though. MskSlyr has landed a 10lbr out of that pond before so they definitely can hit double digits there!
