Super User Muddy Posted November 13, 2008 Super User Posted November 13, 2008 Hey Fellas: I was thinking about something that Catt said: the bass do not get conditioned to worms, that really seems to be true. I was wondering if all the sucess with swim baits is because the bigger bass have been eating bigger fish and they never had hooks in them before T Last season most of the folks on Mauch Chunk that I know were wacky rigging Senko type baits, their effectiveness declined. However the T rigged Senko baits and jigs was slaying them. I noticed this when me and Speedbead went out mid season. It held true for the rest of the season. Wake baits on top ( Jitter Bugs) seem to be as old as Long Mike and they always work also, swimbaits just seem like thier bigger brothers, I see them in my boat in the future. Just think how many times you were reeling in a fouled crankbait or Rapala type bait and it is waking across the top and you get a hit. Quote
Pigsticker Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 IMO wacky rigging senkos work best in cold water or post cold front during the spawn. For all other times you will catch bigger fish T-Rigging a variety of plastics. I also think fish get conditioned to wacky rigged senko chucking more than any other plastic bait presentation. I think WayneP. might come on and disagree with me but I know most of his success is with finesse and trickworms, great baits that are hard to condition bass with. I think wacky rigging(senkos) is much different than other plastic rigs and is more of a reaction bite technique and that traditonal C-rigs/t-rigs do NOT condition bass or minimal at best. Quote
Super User Tin Posted November 13, 2008 Super User Posted November 13, 2008 If you were throwing senkos in lakes up here three year, you would catch ever fish in the lake. Now go try it... You will be beat destroyed by jig-fisherman in 9/10 lakes. Last year it was noticable that the senko bite was diminishing, this year that senko bite (texas or wacky rigged) is gone in all the lakes I fish. And I could not be happier... There is still one lake though, but I have learned to love a 4" junebug senko. Quote
Pigsticker Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 4-5 inch senkos, fish get conditoned to them. Bring out bigger stuff I love throwing an 11 inch trick worm........ Quote

But if you have 95% of the guys throwing them non-stop, the fish will catch on eventually. The same thing has happened with spinnerbaits and lipless cranks up here on most RI lake, which is why I believe the chatterbaits and jerkbaits are doing serious damage up here were the other 2 use to.
