Dean Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 You go to bed early the night before, and get up at 4:30AM the next morning and as you're heading out to your "honey hole", you notice this interesting cove. The water is crystal clear and the depth of the cove varies from 5' to around 15' at the deepest part. Remember, we're in fall now, so the water temperature is around 50-60 degrees at warmest here in northern New England. The air is frigid so you are wearing your new winter coat. You go to pick up your favorite setup with your favorite lure tied on, which is ____________(Post what lure you are going to be using) and (What presentation are you going to use? (How are you going to throw it?) So guys, give it you're all! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 17, 2008 Super User Posted September 17, 2008 I would focus on smallmouth exclusively, but still might snag a green fish. The first place I would start is around the points, positioning in deeper water and casting into shallower water. If there were a slight breeze I might start with a Sammy, Spook or Caviton Buzzbait; if calm, Lucky Craft Pointer 100 or 128. Later, Fat Ika and 5" GYCB Single Tail Grub. By midday, focus on structure in deeper water with jigs and a DD22 (white). I wouldn't waste any time in the cove itself, it might be infested with green fish chasing minnows! 8-) Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted September 18, 2008 Super User Posted September 18, 2008 Nice picture Dean. Looks like a perfect time and place for the original floating Rapala. Toss it out, feathering the spool so it lands as lightly as possible. Then let it sit until you can't stand it, and let it sit some more. Give it slightest twitch and let it sit again. Repeat. Then move it about 3 or 4 feet with an erratic cadence, and let it sit again. Repeat. Quote

Jake. Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 That's the perfect situation for a Lucky Craft Pointer. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted September 19, 2008 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted September 19, 2008 SPOOK it! Quote
basspimple Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 work points with a husky jerk. hair jig/pig on rocky 45 degree banks, and a small sammy if the fish are active. Quote
memo43 Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 throw the buzz bait, with the slowest possible retreat. remeber food is scare sort of, a nice fat bass should target what looks like an easy meal. or bounce some frogs around what little vegetation is 10-15 feet from the bank. memo Quote
daviscw Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I would try to sell that picture first! That's gorgeous! Quote

bassfshn69 Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Work around the point(s) with a spook heddon...slow action retrival letting it sit then twitch, sit, walk the dog some, and sit again. ;D Quote
JShrock07 Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I would start the morning with a spook or a buzzbait. Once the topwater bite slowed down I would grab a red eye shad or a jerkbait, If that doesn't perform for me I would then try a deep diving crank and then slow it down with a 10-12" culprit worm or a 3/8ox jig with a rage tail craw. If these don't work I will break out ALL of my tackle and throw everything I have until I find what works. Quote
