ptomacbass Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 tonight the temperature will drop to about 37 degrees farenheight. I will be fishing in a vey weedy area at about 5 a.m. which is probablly a little early with temperatures this cold but it's the latest I can go. do you guys think a spro frog would work if fished very slowly? I know I should probablly use a jig but I was just wondering. Quote
smallieking Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Since the surface temp is so cold in early morning, frogs will not naturally skip across but they will work, Dean Rojas says he catches fish in the dead of winter when the bass school up. Next year im going to get into the frog craze more but from what i have read, you can catch some bass on frogs. Good luck. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted October 19, 2008 Super User Posted October 19, 2008 Anythings worth a try.The frog would probably have to worked painfully slow. I think you'd be better off with a trick worm fished weightless, wind permitting.Of course I don't know how weedy it is but a splitshot rig with a slender mojo style weight swam through the grass slowly would work if is scattered or clumped grass. Super User Dan: Posted October 19, 2008 Super User Posted October 19, 2008 what is the water temp where you are fishing? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 19, 2008 Super User Posted October 19, 2008 i would burn shallow cranks over the weeds, or fish with weedless plastics. Quote
ptomacbass Posted October 19, 2008 Author Posted October 19, 2008 the mid water column temperature should be about 62.5 degrees tomorrow. Quote

ptomacbass Posted October 19, 2008 Author Posted October 19, 2008 I got one strike. I waited until I felt the fish pulling and then set the hook but it still popped out of his mouth. It was frezzing and about 37 degrees with wind chill but it got up to about 45 degrees. Quote
ptomacbass Posted October 19, 2008 Author Posted October 19, 2008 spro bronzeye in the big size. Quote
smallieking Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 o just wondering cause i miss alot of fish on the cheaper frogs but the bronzeeye has a good hookup ratio Quote
Pigsticker Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Fished a frog this weekend temps 35-50, caught one 4-4.5 but I waited til afternoon to fish it (warmer) and I used a Gambler Cane toad. Soft plastic frogs will increase your hook-up percentage tremendously. You just have to reel very slowly...... Like Bassfinatic said when its cold try a frog, then switch to a trickworm with a 1/16 oz weight. I did a lot better with the trick worm, and I was fishing the same conditions you were Potomac bass only windier Quote
Big-O Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 I have also used floating twitch frogs almost year around with good results but on colder days , I wait till the sun is high and surface temp is on the rise. Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
The Next KVD Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 sorry guyz but to me its just unnatural in my mind to fish a frog w/ confidence in water that cold. Today, i was fishing water that was in the mid 40's and couldn't get a bite on the frog fished sloooooooooooowwwwwwwwww. Switched to a trickworm w/ a 1/8oz. wieght and flipped it on 50lb braid and caught 10 fish between 1 and 5lbs in about 30 mins. Quote
