c17Lat Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 From another site *: 2009 FLW College Fishing There's no entry fees. The tournaments are free and open to all full-time students who belong to a fishing club recognized by a 4-year university or college (club members must also be members of FLW Outdoors). > Two-person teams will compete in each qualifying event (FLW will provide boats and drivers for each team). > Participating teams will receive a "travel allowance," and each team will have an opportunity to win $10,000 for 1st and $2,000 through 5th place. My school is in upstate new york and has a fishing club that is very disorganized, and no one has a boat. So according to this news from the doc talk section on another site, I can fish a big money tournament, on my home potomac river water, with my friend on someone else's bass boat for FREE??? This sounds too good to be true. This is the part I really like since I don't have a bass boat (taken straight from the rules document on the collegefishing.com website): "FLW Outdoors will secure professional anglers who will provide boats and act as tournament officials. These professional anglers will drive the boats. College Fishing team anglers will determine fishing locations and operate the trolling motor." Quote
bmadd Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 That seems to be how it is going to work. I'm sure the money will be a reimbursement so you'll still have to pay upfront. Also, I think you will be able to fish the Stren series the same way. FLW is really stepping up BIG time to help us college kids out. It's good stuff. Quote
RobbyZ5001 Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 If you guys want to know a little more about it PM me. I will give you my phone number and we can talk. I spoke with the man in charge of the college fishing league at FLW. I am also a member from Penn State. Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 9, 2008 Super User Posted October 9, 2008 I wish more people my age fished up here. > Quote
mase088 Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 I'm on Auburns team and I'm pretty sure I'm doing it. The head of our club said we can't sign up online, that he would have to sign us up or something like that? Also I was told that we would drive our own boats, but we were compensated for gas. I could have misunderstood but I'm pretty sure that was what I was told. Quote
bmadd Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 The majority of the tournaments you are responsible for your own boat. However, in the rules stated on their website and in a email I received this summer, it did say that boats would be provided. Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 10, 2008 Super User Posted October 10, 2008 Man, I wish LSU had a college fishing team. Is dynamite allowed? Us Coonasses like dynamite when we fish the bayous. Good luck to all in the tournament. ;D ;D ;D Quote
Thad Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I am shaking right now, literally, from finding this out. I have wanted to get into this so bad and if its true with them providing the boat then I am entering this week. If anyone pays attention to this from Radford Univeristy, I'm recruiting. Quote
frogtog Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 The ABA is looking for co-anglers to fish the Nationals at Guntersville Oct 25 - Nov 1 There is no money in it but you get a host of experience from it. If you are interested e-mail me. Quote
rfrazier Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 This is exciting. The western division takes place in my home waters as well. Oregon will be there hopefully. Far as I know there are very few established college bass clubs on the west coast, hopefully this will help spark some interest. Quote
TruflShufl Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Wichita State is starting a club and if we can, we plan on making it. 14 hours to Detroit? No sweat! 8-) Quote
fatmanslim247 Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 me and truffle will be making the trips for wsu, we are road kings, 2 guys 10 poles, a ton of tackle clothes, double cheeseburgers from the mcdonalds dollar menu, in a 2 door honda accord.... if that doesn't sound like diehards i don't know what is Quote
alger319 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 is there any tournament action going on around Florida? i go to University of Central Florida (no fishing team) but i'd surely participate in something that isn't too far. Quote
bmadd Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Start a team Alger! In the South Division, the first tournament is at Okeechobee and then the regional is at Lake Monroe. Quote
