Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 17, 2008 Super User Posted October 17, 2008 I came up with this recipe a while ago for the bluegills at my local park. it worked very well! this works just as good as nightcrawalers and its a lot cleaner on your fingers than nightcrawlers too. the recipe: 5 parts flour 2 parts garlic powder or garlic salt 3 parts vegetable oil thats it. mix the flour and garlic powder together while they're still dry. then add the oil and knead into dough. works great. try it if you ever take little kids bluegill fishing. Pencil Pusher Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Dave don't like worm poop on his fingers. ;D Quote
DADto4 Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I'll try it with the kids this weekend,We have been using raw bacon. It's great..... also, you can catch 10 or so gills before they get the bacon off the hook. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted October 17, 2008 Super User Posted October 17, 2008 Aint nothin that a waxworm can't do.Best BG bait I ever used. Why don't ya cook up a killer carp recipe Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 18, 2008 Author Super User Posted October 18, 2008 Dave don't like worm poop on his fingers. ;D you got that right you could use this dough as carp bait too, im sure it would work. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 18, 2008 Super User Posted October 18, 2008 How about adding a little JJ's Magic to the mix. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted October 18, 2008 Super User Posted October 18, 2008 Thanks dave! i'm going to give this a try one day. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted October 20, 2008 Super User Posted October 20, 2008 This stuff is harder to make than i thought....i can't get it to stay hard enough that it would stay on the hook. However i did a little investigating last night and you can put it in microwave for 30 seconds, pull of an end piece and if it's a little hard it's perfect if not reheat another 10-15 seconds till you get a hard play dough like texture. Super User .dsaavedra. Posted October 21, 2008 Author Super User Posted October 21, 2008 sweet! i've never tried heating it before. once you microwave it, does it stay hard? Quote
Super User grimlin Posted October 23, 2008 Super User Posted October 23, 2008 Sorry i'm late on this,I have no idea if it stays hard once it goes in the water or not.I haven't been fishing lately. However i cooked it with just plain flour and water. The oil wasn't working for me. Another idea of mine is add some bread crumbs...bluegills love bread so it would make sense to add it. I'm gonna try and give this a go this weekend and see if i can get them to hit it.Also to see how well it works or not. Quote

Super User grimlin Posted October 24, 2008 Super User Posted October 24, 2008 I'll try to give it a try. They are calling for rain all weekend. I doubt i'm gonna be fishing in 50's and rain.I get sick way too easy. I just want to test it to see if cooking them in the microwave will allow it to not dissolve once it hits the water. Quote
