Players and their families receiving benefits including cash has been going on from the beginning of time and always will in some from.  There must have been THOUSANDS of players who have received "illegal" benefits in college football alone.  Anyone who acts appalled by this is being naive.

Sure we know it goes on at every major university.

It is the fact that Daddy Newton acted alone and little Cam had no idea it was going on that I can't swallow.

Ask yourself this....if it goes on as much as we all know and believe, how stupid does one have to be to get caught ???

I think I am gonna sell those NCAA investigators some ocean front property here in Ohio.

The NCAA is a sham.

That's a bit of a generalization, no?  What about all the student-athletes in lower profile programs and sports?  What about the DII and DIII programs?  I think you are off base with that remark.

So as I understand it, the NCAA basically said that they confirmed that Cam's dad asked for money so they declared him ineligible for 2 days and then reinstated him.

Do I acknowledge that shady dealings are more common than folks may think?  Yes.  But at the same time, the NCAA appears to have evidence that there were indeed shady dealings here, and they did nothing.

Why does being in a lower profile program change the fact that the NCAA governs with a ridiculous amount of hypocrisy, and a complete lack of common sense?

Anyone hear the scoreboard operator for Bama got fired after he played "Son of A Preacher Man" followed by " Take the Money and Run" during the pregame? I found it pretty dam funny.

This is about the biggest load of crap that the NCAA has tried to sell people.  They should've just said that they didn't want to rule Newton ineligible because that would be bad for ratings.

I'd almost predict that we'll hear "new facts" after the season is over and THEN they'll rule against him.

One of my good friends told me about it.  He was at the stadium when they played it.  He says that he almost fell out of his seat laughing.

Personally I think it's friggin hilarious.  What a great pair of songs to play.  Dude shouldn't have lost his job over that.

I guess it doesn't.  I must have misinterpreted your remark.

The NCAA just opened a huge can of worms with this ruling. What's going to stop every other dad from doing the same thing in the future? If they do it and get 'caught', they can just refer the NCAA back to this ruling and everybody is in the clear as long as the player "knew nothing about it".

Nice work NCAA!  ;)

I hope they close out that loophole....

I really dont see how they can unless they come back and suspend Newton and some point.

How about changing the rules to: If the player's parents is found guilty of soliciting money, then the player is ineligible regardless of whether the player had knowledge of the event.
