gokart83 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Hey everyone, I would like to try fishing deeper water with cranks on a colder day that requires deep water fishing, but i dont have any cranks that go deep enough. If you could tell me any cranks you know of that reach 8-12 feet of water, please, im open to any comments Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 14, 2008 Super User Posted July 14, 2008 The Rat-L-Trap, Fat Free Shad and DD22 can all be fished at that depth. 8-) Quote
gokart83 Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 The Rat-L-Trap, Fat Free Shad and DD22 can all be fished at that depth. 8-) thanks a lot! you comment on all my posts, and they all seem good. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 14, 2008 Super User Posted July 14, 2008 If you simply follow the specs, the Rat-L-Trap is really designed to be fished a little shallower. At the Guntersville Roadtrip we were fishing these lures in 2' - 4' of water! The Fat Free Shad 14' -18'; DD22 11' - 18'. However, all three can be fished at a variety of depths. I think all three will work for you and they are relatively inexpensive. 8-) Quote
Megastink Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I second the Fat Free Shad. I am a huge supporter of this bait. Bomber just released a new color: Foxy Shad. Its like the sexy shad color. And i also find strike king crankbaits to be very effective. I would choose either the series 5 or 6, but i prefer Fat Free Shads. Line is also important. I would go with Fluorocarbon, Vanish 12#. you can still fish deeper diving cranks in shallower waters (say 7'-10')by using heavier line, like 17# or 20#. This will cause them to dive shallower. Quote

rocknfish9001 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 rapala DT15 is a good one, and the fat free shad has produced for me as well, however, the norman DD22 is unmatched in my opinion when you are deep water crankin'. You can fish from 10-18ft with these depending on your casts and speed of retrieve. I just started getting into deep crankin' this year, and wish i started earlier. Quote
rocknfish9001 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 btw, I second the rat-l-trap, however, fishing it below 8-10ft. can be tricky, but productive. My favorite bait of this style has become the strike king red eye shad, sexy shad color, of course ;D Quote
Chad. Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I fish the rattle trap shallow and deep either works Quote
RLinNH Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I just picked up a Fat Free Shad that is supposed to go from 12-14ft. I haven't tried it yet. but I am a little perplexed as the bait I got from BRS has NO clear coat on it. I think it will scratch easily. We will see next week while I am on VACATION and HAVING A HELL OF A FISHY GOOD TIME!!! 8-) Quote
Primus Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 It's pricey but I'm huge fan of the Jackall Muscle Deep 15 Plus. In addition to being an excellent producer it's probably the most easily retrieved deep diving crank that I've tried due to it's smaller profile. I wish the would add a few more colors. Quote
