Why is it just in the last few weeks that some of the comments made in various forums/posts have been rude and uncalled for? Is it because of winter and being pent up? :-/ We all talk about what a great forum that Glenn, Keri, and the mods have provided for us and express this to the new members on a daily basis thru the New Members Board. Obviously the banter between members who are familiar with each other doesn't count, but young members with simple questions or obvious comments are being met with sarcasm and rude retorts by some. Other new members being blasted more recently in the flea market because of the recent hiatus of a man last known in the OK/TX area.

We have the whole gamut from young to old and inexperienced to professional on this board, can we at least police ourselves a little better for the boss and his mods?

I agree. I kind of quit the forum for some time because I got tired of 7 pages of how I should of googled my fishing related question instead of asking a fishing forum.

I have noticed this lately as well. It does seem like some people just love to Bicker on every single thread that pops up. Normally by Spring time everyone is out catching bass and everyone's friendly again.

Great Post.

The lack of bickering and rude comments is what has always set BR apart from other sites.  Thank you for reminding everyone of that fact. 

However, here are some facts that may lead to the short fuses.

1.  there are more suicides in December and January than the other ten months combined on average

2.  Limited sunlight is also a contributing factor to peoples low tolerance for the small things.

3.  No fishing = No fun.  Most anglers go fishing to relieve stress from the day to day grind. 

4.  My mother-in-law is just really drIVING ME UP A %#%$%#ING WALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would also add (without going into detail and breaking the rules), there is a lot of general frustration in the nation right now with the job situation (I know a few guys who are very concerned about being homeless in a few months), the politics (which thankfully are NOT discussed in here), and depending where you are, the weather has been pretty nasty. So we are probably seeing a lot of that coming into the boards.

It guess it is a good thing that it is so out of the ordinary here that folks post about it when it seems to flare up.

Banter, by definition is fun and light hearted. The banter on this forum is the only thing that interests me here anymore. If all that people want is a boring, straight forward, question/answer forum with no entertainment value, I say boo to that.

Most likely, you guys don't know the denotation of banter though.

Now, outright attacks, though often funny to me, probably shouldnt happen.

It takes all kinds of people, rude and respectful to make the world what it is.  If someone is too thin skinned to take a rude comment or what is perceived to be a rude comment, then its that persons issue. Sticks and stones......names will never hurt me.

On the other side of the coin, if a member is obnoxious or just rude because that's his way of expressing himself then so be it.  I think that's what makes this forum so entertaining!  Personal attacks though have no part in our forum unless a fellow member committed a known crime (The_Natural). Nevertheless, once a horse is beaten no need to go on and on about it, and that's where admin steps in, unless of course we are bashing Quantum owners  , pun intended!

all n all...this site isn't bad what so ever...pretty mild if ya ask me...or else i haven't been paying attention...a little banter is good and i agree with fourbizz it does make for more interesting reading...otherwise it would all be like stale bread...

its another thing to make fun of a newbie for asking newbie questions...and making them feel like a fool for askin...thats just being a grade A @ss...

this site is nothing compared to some of the k9 boards, mma boards and others i'm on...holy buckets do some of those get way over the top...funny reading sometimes but ya better have thick skin...

this place is sunday school compared...but i'd hate for BR to go the way of some other fishin boards, well atleast one in particular i have in mind...where mods constantly edit, manipulate, censor, delete threads and constantly ban people for nothing at all really...where if you say anything deemed negative towards the powers at be, no matter how clean & articulately you state it...you will get banned...

one board i said "it was really really weird they didn't allow pm's, that it was the only board i know of that doesn't"...well i got banned for saying exactly that ;D

thats why i came to this board...because its "normal" and not run by communists...where you can exercise free speech within reason of course...thats one of the many reasons i feel that makes this site rock...otherwise it would be like mr rogers/sesame street or something

yeah the mods here will not censor unless you break the rules (as stated in the FAQ). I have seen folks post criticism of them without being moded. It is all about just showing common courtesy.

Yeah, it is not sesame street. Folks will give you a little bit of grief here for poor spelling, grammar, asking anything more about snakehead fish, etc. But 99% of the time they don't take it too far.

There have been some posts I noticed that seemed a bit across the line. Nobody dropping f bombs or anything like that and really not crimes against humanity, just a little too personal, IMO.

Either way, this place still rocks, my fishing style and effectiveness the day I started here compared to what it is today, night and day. Have learned a lot from the guys here. And they have helped me spend hundreds and hundreds of my hard earned money in the process, lol.

It happens, this again is just the internet, so if you take it to heart, I think you need a reality check. 

I still love you guys!  I have been part of many online communities, and it happens. Once people are away from computers and more on their boats things will lighten up.

Outright rudness from some...well..imho that's when the Mods have to do their job sometimes. Also, some people feel alot more brave behind a keyboard. Ignore it.

My post is aimed more at making the younger guys and the other new members feel more welcome.  As was said earlier, people that have been here for a while can maybe understand and roll with it, but I'm sure that a lot of the kids and new users that come to this site are looking to be acccepted and to be part of the mix.  Yes, I know sometimes you need to grow a pair and not let things bother you, but isn't it just as easy walk away from a post that you don't agree with rather than start a pizzing match?

Well it gets old when seven out of ten threads can usually be found in a search because the question has been brought up so many times. Hell, this is a thread that happens every winter (sometimes multiple times) as well. I don't even like to visit the tackle and rod/reel section because it is the same stuff and same recommendations over and over again.

How many times can someone ask the same question over and over before it gets annoying? Especially when the answer is usually a page or two back.

I know two wrongs don't make a right by why should some be given respect when they don't give it?

Keep in mind that we have 26,233 members at the moment I am typing this, though I don't know how many are truly active. What community of more than 25,000 people has no crime, no arguments, and no disrespect? None. And you can bet that every single one of those 25,000 people have had disagreements . . . . some more than others.

I don't like it either but it's going to happen now and then with such a large population. If you think about it, it's pretty amazing that Glenn and the Moderators are able to minimize this type of behavior to the level that it is.
