This is the deal with the kid that he made stand, right?

Yep, depending on who you believe.

LOL, I would love to see any current NCAA football player go through a practice (let alone a season) with Bear Bryant or one of the other "old school" coaches.

Craig James's son is Adam James. He has been alightly used TE/WR type who has played little this year. Apparently he had a concussion at some point.

He showed up to practice with sunglasses on and Leach told him to take them off, James said his doctor told him to avoid the sunlight because of mild concussion symptoms. James argued with Leach and was quite the smart ***, so Leach told him to sit in the equipment room for a couple of hours where it was nice and dark.

James calls his dad who rained down hell on Tech AD (former BB coach) Gerald Myers and the Tech President. They fear James's political and media power and they scurried to suspend Leach while an investigation is ongoing.

Leach has a long history of taking no guff off of players and he had several episodes this season where he showed diminishing tolerance of prima donna players and selfish behaviors. Many of you saw on youtube his rant about "fat little girlfriends" He just pushed the wrong kid at the wrong time here. Concussions are dangerous and football (college and pro) are taking them more seriously. Leach assumed since the MDs had cleared Adam to play with full contact that there wouldn't be any restrictions. James did not have a doctor's note or letter authorizing the sunglasses.

He's stepped in it, for sure, but I am more on leach's side in this deal than i am on James's. Leach was on record as saying that the Mangino stuff was a witch hunt and he said that every disgruntled kid who had been ridden hard or shown any discipline was going to spring into action and lawyer up.

James is pretty much a pariah among his teammates. The entire team is put on media hush orders and have been told if they talk to reporters or if they tweet etc about this, they'll be suspended, too.

Plenty depends upon how hard the James family wants to push (apparently pretty d**n hard to choose to drop this bomb during bowl week) and whether or not Leach will be contrite and apologetic. He'll probably tell them to kiss his *** and then walk away.

Also this:

- The kid was kept out of sunlight. He wasn't in a dungeon. One time he was in an equipment room and another time he was in an air conditioned media room. At this point there wasn't any reason for him to be at practice, but Leach has a policy that you don't miss practice for injuries. Usually injured players (unless they need treatment in the treatment rooms) are on the sidelines and at team drills, even if they aren't participating.

Leach was, admittedly, ticked off at the kid's long record of malingering. His injury list and reasons he said he couldn't practice this season is amazing. Leach was also ticked off at the frequent phone calls and e-mails from daddy with suggestions on how to get his boy into the lineup etc etc. This was a straw that broke the camel's back, but don't portray it as cruel and unusual punishment.

It would be one thing if the kid had a concussion and Leach made him do tackle drills. OR if Leach made him play in sunlight against doctor's orders. Neither of those happened. He put him in a dark room. BFD. Leach lost a starting QB to a concussion in game three or four this year and the kid never missed a practice or meeting. He lost a starting DE for three weeks to a concussion and broken jaw and the kid never missed a practice. he's old school about injuries, but he didn't risk anything in this case.

- It is a garage-sized shed next to the outdoor practice field. Players are sent there when they overheat or need to lie down. One player, now an NFL starter, had asthma and used to go there to recover and take his meds before resuming practice.

When someone checked on James the first day, he was found lying down, asleep. That is why Leach had the sitting options removed and a stationary bike placed in there. Once again, James was cleared to practice. This was not an acute concussion and there's some significant medical doubt he had a concussion. There's no scan or blood test for concussion-it is based primarily on history and reported symptoms. The docs were doubtful about his story but were cautious. Leach did zip to enadanger the kid. Zip..

I knew there was something more to this story. Where'd you get that, BL?

It's absolutely stupid. It's not like he was having the kid run 100, 100 yard sprints while he was hurt.

Speaking of old school coaches, Joe Paterno, after the arrest of couple football players getting in a fight in a bar, he punished the ENTIRE team by forcing them to clean up the stadium after every home game for entire season. I don't think I've seen a Penn State player arrested since. ;D

What Burley posted is very interesting indeed. :) Makes Craig James look like a (insert word).

He just messed with the wrong kid, on the flip side I would not be surprised if James transferred to another school, may SMU would take him.

Texas Tech is getting out of paying Leach that fat bonus he was due to get tomorrow (if he was still coaching the team 12-31-09)

This came at a very convenient time didnt it?  ;)

I don't think they saw it as a way to get rid of him before his bonus was due, I think it was more that they didn't know what was going to happen in the investigation and having to pay the bonus just helped them make up their minds.

2 sides to every story.

the media rarely reports either of them.

There's probably 6 or 7 sides to this story. None are 100% accurate, you can bet on that.

Sorry to see him go.

He will land on his feet somewhere.

As for Texas Tech, the school will continue to attract good players and do well in the future.  :)

Past and present players have emailed in on how Adam James was a lazy cancer on the team.    Current head coach of Houston, ex coach at Tech said same thing, Adam was lazy.

I'd want him fired because he coaches like a loose cannon.  Cost his team some wins due to stupid calls.

I have read the emails from Graham Harrell and others.

Some one said the Big XII took out some trash, I'm inclined to kinda agree with that.

Tech has been to the Cotton Bowl twice under Leach and lost both times.        Thats the best bowl under Leach they have earned.

      Tech can do better!!!

A message board...

I wish ESPN would mention something about James' reported laziness or confrontations with the coaches....but they won't at risk of hurting his Dad's feelings or something.

I'd say that he is the center of the story. If what Burley posted is true, then I can understand Leech's actions. I know that there are players who feel entitled and will try to get back at coaches who don't treat them like superstars or give them enough playing time. A lot of times those players get their entitlement from having hotshot Dads....

If what some of the players and coaches are saying about James is true, then he isn't the innocent concussion victim that the media is making him out to be. Frankly, that story didn't make any sense to me. Sending a kid to a room for having a concussion doesn't make any sense. Him being a smartass, lazy, uncoachable player at least helps the story make sense.
