Super User fishfordollars Posted December 14, 2009 Super User Posted December 14, 2009 My wife is beside herself. She had all of her emails from her daughter sitting in her inbox and messed around and lost them all. She has no idea how they disappeared. I have contacted our ISP and they are unwilling to help as we do not have a small business account. Our daughter was lost August 22, 2008 and she is desperate to retrieve them(Most had pictures that she failed to save). If anyone can help I would consider it a great favor and I will include a very nice lure package to you if you can help us out. If you prefer I will pay for your help, your call. We are running XP, and run AT&T (v8.0) for windows. Thanks to anyone and all for your help. Wanda thanks you also. Merry Christmas, Jack If this takes a phone call to us it will be fine to do it collect. I want no one out any money. Quote

Simp Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Wow fishfordollars I really hope somebody can help you. I'm usually very good at tech stuff but I've got no clue here. I hope it's sitting on somebodies server somewhere. I'd keep trying AT&T, I'm sure somebody higher up should be able to authorize some help for you. Quote
done Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Were the emails in outlook or on another email client or on AT&T's servers? Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 15, 2009 Author Super User Posted December 15, 2009 AT&T server Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 15, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 15, 2009 Agreed dick is da man. He can help you. Hopefully you have backed up your data sometime during the last 12 months. Then it's just a matter of grabbing your pst from backup, renaming it, and importing it into Outlook. I'd rename it so that you won't overwrite your current e-mails when you import it. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted December 15, 2009 Super User Posted December 15, 2009 Are you sure they are saved on AT&T servers? Most home connections don't. if I open email on my laptop and get my messages, then open email on a different system I don't get the messages I received before because they download to my computer and are not stored on my ISP's server. For XP there should be a .dbk file in the Application Data folder in the Documents and Settings folder. Without being able to look thru the system it kind of hard to guess what is going on. Quote
I Love BassResource Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Sent you a PM. Thanks for the kind words guys, lots of knowledgeable people on the board, I just try to help out when/where I can. Quote
brianbass Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 can you do a system restore? and take it back to a date before she erased them?I do not know that much about pc's. hope you get your stuff back.hope this helps. brian Quote
I Love BassResource Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 BrianinMD and Glen are both on the right track. Depending on the email client in use and how its set to synch, original copies of the lost email may or may not be on the AT&T mail servers, most likely not. This doesn't mean AT&T can't recover them, but that's a different story/approach. If they have any current backups, we can try to re import a .pst equivalent (depending on the client), and restore most of what was deleted. I'll do whatever I can to help out..... Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 15, 2009 Author Super User Posted December 15, 2009 Thanks, I sent you a PM. Jack Quote
