Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted November 10, 2009 Super User Posted November 10, 2009 I know you are not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but the guy in the picture? He has ChoMo written all over him. Creepy... Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 10, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 10, 2009 Because it's Faux news. Especially when it comes to technology "news". Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted November 10, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted November 10, 2009 Huh? My comments have absolutely nothing to do with politics. I don't know who she is. The whole article is based on interviews of convicted felons by a third party. And then they sprinkle in genuine information about viruses in general to make it sound legit. I've seen Faux news do this over and over again on the topic of technology. It seems they feel the Internet should be feared. Yet none of their stories have proven worthy of concern. They have a Chicken Little approach to it - much ado about nothing. Again, speaking specifically about the topics of computers, technology, and the Internet as "reported" by Faux news. I don't watch them on TV, nor follow them on the Internet, so I cannot comment on anything else they do. I only see their stories when somebody brings up yet another wild story about technology they've place on their site....ya, the one on the Internet *gasp*. Within that context, I haven't seen anything worthwhile enough to encourage me to explore them any further. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted November 10, 2009 Super User Posted November 10, 2009 Fox news is just like all the other news outlets. They have an ajenda that they wish to promote and will print, voice, manufacture, add, or delete most anything that will steer a listener in their direction. Just sad the news has come to that. Quote

Agreed. Facts shouldn't contain opinions. America's major news outlets are broken. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted November 10, 2009 Super User Posted November 10, 2009 Several days ago my wife picked a virus on hr computer ( no porn sites) and the pop ups began. Had a tech come over and fix the problem, everything is fine now. At least for the cost of service he left the program on the computer for future use. I put the program on my computer and had some junk I didn't know was there, all clean and the puter works like the day I bought it. I've been running the program every 3 days or so and there is always some new unwanted sh^t. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 It's not just Faux News. I don't see any reason to discount a news story simply because it came from Fox. The other outlets are even worse, in my opinion. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/09/internet-virus-frames-use_n_350426.html http://www.examiner.com/x-8134-SF-Gadgets-Examiner~y2009m11d9-Computer-virus-frames-people-for-child-pornography-possession http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33778733/ns/technology_and_science-security/ Quote
done Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 This stuff does happen. Not everyday but it does. I got one on my laptop once that pulled down "normal" porn to my HD. I monitor my network traffic so when i saw the spike I knew something was up. My laptop is patched latest greatest and locked with anti-virus which is updated but it still did not stop this from happening. From what I found out it came from a mainstream technical news site that had somehow gotten the some nasty code inserted into its site. Though I can say, a good deal of my job involves being online. Been doing this more than 10 years and only once did I get infected like that. They fixed their site quickly but it is definitely possible. For work, I have had to sling some serious amounts of legitimate code into web pages, some of which runs within a end users browser. I can think of more than a few ways I could code something to wreak havoc like that. As for news agencies bias, I do not think there is a news agency in the US, possibly not the world who reports without bias. All you need to do is bring up google news or something similar and see the different ways different orgs will write the same headline. Quote

I have seen lately a window pop up and say "Warning your computer is effected by a virus, down load an update now to protect" This isn't a normal way correct? I think thats the virus they are trying to trick you into downloading am I wrong? Quote
