FordNFishinLover Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Okay so i just got home and turned on my t.v. An heres this WWF or watever its called, wrestling. Does it bug anyone else how pathetically fake these are? You can sit and watch them and see how fake almost everything is. An what is worse is there are actually people that like to watch this and prob think its real!!! This stupid crap is buggin me to death! People need to learn to watch UFC.... Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted October 28, 2009 Super User Posted October 28, 2009 As fake as it may be, I still wouldnt want to be hit with a chair or thrown through a table by one of those guys. The stuff still has to hurt....it just has to. Quote
preach4bass Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 A few weeks ago I was flipping through the channels and came across "rasselling" and paused for a second. That second turned into about 15 minutes of laughing harder than I had in a long time. It wasn't so much the poor actors that had me rolling, but the fans. Those folks were so into that stuff it was like they were feeling every fake punch and orchestrated flop. :-X Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 28, 2009 Super User Posted October 28, 2009 I think most kids these days go through that 7-11 age gap where they love it. My little brothers and his fellow goons love it. I remember I loved Stone Cold and HBK back in the day. You better hope Burley doesn't see this thread. ;D Quote
TrippyJai Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 I grew up watching wrestling and I stopped watching it 4 years ago after the 'attitude era' ended which was when Stone Cold was battling The Rock. Nowadays, WWE is PG rating so they cater to the younger kids. The acting and characters now are pretty bad and wrestling, I would say is quite boring. I no longer watch it, but I do respect them because their jobs aren't easy and the bumps they take can get pretty extreme at times. I still hate it when people say wrestling is fake, it's scripted and I am pretty sure most people who watch it knows it's not real, so wrestling fans don't need people saying "isn't it fake?" every time we mention pro wrestling. WWE = World Wrestling Entertainment. Speaking of UFC, I am disappointed that Shogun got robbed at 104, but that's a topic for a new thread. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted October 28, 2009 Super User Posted October 28, 2009 I'm just wondering if any of the others here are grey haired enough to remember "Hay-Stacks Calhoun" or "The Shiek"? Back in the 1960's these guys were the main event when Hay-Stacks would enter the ring in his bib overalls will the full intent of removing the mask worn by the Shiek. My Grandmother would watch in horror these "Real" wrestling matches. As much as she couldn't understand why the ref's allowed all their antics, she never missed that weekly show. Quote

When I was young, my dad never let me watch wrestling because he didn't like what he saw, but whenever I was over at my grandma's place, she would order me to turn to a wrestling channel. I still don't understand why he liked it. I doubt she even understood what was going on. Nonetheless, it was fun watching it with my grandma. The look on her face was priceless. Quote
BassDeaton01 Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 I watched wrestling back when Stone Cold and The Rock and all those guys were big. I stopped watching before my teen years but I definitely get a good laugh if I turn it on now. I just think it is too much like a man soap opera now. Quote
Carmen J Bernardo Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 When I came of age, almost all pro wrestling was handled by the old WWF with old names like Cheif Jay Strongbow, Ivan "Polish Power" Putski, Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka and George "the Animal" Steele. You could witness the antics of heels like Captain Lou Albano and his Samoans, the Iron Sheik and Ivan Koloff. You could cheer to Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant in their prime. Back then, all WWF events were taped to be televised on weekend broadcasts on the old UHF channels. It was a nice treat for a kid on Saturday afternoons following the decline of the era of D-rate horror flicks. But with the advent of cable TV, imitators started popping up and the soap factor started creeping in. Wrestling matches stopped being an entertainment factor for some of the outrageous acts and more for faked melodrama which eventually shoved virtually all of the action in the ring off of the screens and forced me to sit through over-wrought "locker room scenes" and bragging and threats by men and women who were more like actors than athletic performers. The fun elements of it are long gone. Quote

Simple solution , turn the channel , no one is forcing you to watch .The intelligent ones know it's a staged set up . They all belong to the actors guild and are just entertainers making some bucks. It's really no big deal , please don't loose any sleep over them. Quote
Infidel. Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 People need to learn to watch UFC Why? So I can watch sweaty guys roll around on the ground? No thanks. I would rather watch boxing. Quote

It used to annoy me too but then I thought about it and those fans KNOW it's fake. Well the older ones do anyways, the younger ones might not yet. Anyways, I've just always thought of it as a tv show or something. They're actors, acting away. We watch tv shows which we know are fake, yet we still watch them because they're entertaining. Quote

Hahahah sounds like someones a little on the homophobic side. Take boxing and multiply that by about oh lets say 10, and there you have the ufc. hahaha Quote

The stuff still has to hurt....it just has to. Those chairs are made to be broken by the slightest hit and the tables are made the same way. The only thing that is real, is the falls from what i hear. Obviously when they fall on the ground or something that's real. Sweet triple post! Quote

It is just that it is boring to watch people wrapped up on the ground. UFC seriously isn't all that. Quote

Your right and those fights are boring but when there is a good fight it's extremely entertaining more so than an exciting boxing match. But also, boxing can get that way too. When they get tired they throw a punch or 2 and then start hugging till the reffs pull them off. Both are fun to watch when it's a good fight though. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted October 28, 2009 Super User Posted October 28, 2009 Back when I was a teenager, we used to watch wresting on the local TV stations studio and on TV. Guys like Dick the Bruiser, Harley Race, the Funk brothers, etc. It was OK. Cigar smoking, slightly overweight guys going at each other. Then this guy came along name Superstar Billy Graham. He was amazing and was the guy most responsible for wrestling turning into the glitzy deal it is today. He was a pioneer in that regard. Hulk Hogan along with Jesse Venturi were exact copies of him to a T. I haven't watched wrestling in years. Quote

So you'd rather watch sweaty guys hugging? haha thats hypocritical to sit there and say boxing is entertaining but mma is gross because they get sweaty and grab each other. Quote

Never said gross Nick, just boring. You make a great point with the poor boxing matches with the guys just leaning into each other. To be perfectly honest with you I don't watch boxing that much either, but I just have more respect for it than I do UFC. But back to wrestling, I think it would take a hell of a lot of talent to be able to act the way they do and not seriously hurt people in every match. Just my two cents. Quote

But it mainly just annoys me how the fans can get so into it when its a fake fight. Quote

But i would rather watch UFC anyday. But i have much much more respect for UFC fighters. They dont have to worry about just getting punched. But they can get punched, kicked, tackled, elbowed, and what not. They must be prepared for anything, and be able to take a hit. Quote
southwestoh Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Ill say this,my 7 year old daughter recently got into watching wrestling, and honestly i can not wait till monday nights. Its the same story lines that there was when I was a kid,but it is so fun to watch her.just as Im sure it was the same pleasure for my dad watching me.its entertainment.CSI is not real, the office is not real, 95% of tv is not real. Thanks to my daughter it remined me of why they are so popular with some.Fun is what its all about.
