Actually I think it was the majority of the other NFL owners who didnt approve of him being a bidder. Quote
frogtog Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 This guy loves the game, but I didn't think they would let him in. He is very out spoken and would keep something going all the time. 8-) Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted October 15, 2009 Super User Posted October 15, 2009 He's too much like Archie Bunker. Quote
done Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 ... would keep something going all the time. 8-) That's a good point. I have been thinking, like the man or not, WHY should he not be able to buy a team? I mean if he has the money. Course with the mouth, the press on the NFL would not be great. Be the same thing if Al Sharpton or Michael Moore tried to buy a team, drama drama drama. Quote
llPa1nll Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Well I think most of this stems from the "Comments" or "Alleged Comments" he had made regarding Eagles QB McNabb, back in 2003. That really didnt sit well with some players. With that and the NFL and NFLPA needing to sit down and hammer out a new CBA real soon. My opinion is Mr. Goodell thought it wise to not allow it. No need to stir/soil the pot, come CBA talks time. :-X :-X :-X Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted October 16, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted October 16, 2009 Rush is very disruptive and divisive. That's how he's carved out his niche. Thing is, that's NOT what the NFL owners want. Personally, I'd like to put Rush and Leykis in the same room and let 'em duke it out (verbally)! It'd be like putting a humidifier and a dehumidifier in the same room together. ;D ;D Quote

Super User cart7t Posted October 16, 2009 Super User Posted October 16, 2009 Not that it matters. There are some real questions as to whether the Rams will be in St Louis beyond the year 2015 anyway. Seems there's a tidy little clause in the stadium lease contract with the city about how the current dome stadium must be in the top 25% of all stadiums in the country or else.... : Quote
Pitchinkid Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Would you rather have Rush Limbaugh or AL Davis. Quote
done Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I only wish the NBA were so tough about it. In Charlotte they have the BET network owner running our NBA. At first I thought, well he is a shrewd business man building that network up like that. Maybe he will do good. Then he marketed the team and the "show" (music, cheerleaders, etc) around gangsta rap and garbage like that. Keep in mind Charlotte is a white collar banking town and the part of the population that would be interested in such things could not afford to buy the high priced boxes and such. Been an absolute catastrophe. Rush probably would have drawn too much of the wrong type of attention. I mean everytime he would go on a show and say something unpopular their would be groups calling for a boycott of the Rams or the NFL altogether. They just do not need that mess. Quote

This group was formed to keep the Rams in St. Louis. All those in St. Louis who disapproved of letting Rush be even a minority partner (with no voice in the operation of the team) might change their tune when the Rams eventually pack up and leave town. Zel Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Waiting to hear if George Soros was also part of the group, and if so, the NFL's position on him. Maybe it's time to strip the NFL of its antitrust exemption. Quote
joshuaryan Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 The Rams are a bad, bad team. I'm hoping they get their first win this Sunday. :'( Quote
slider head Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 In typical Rush fashion he went down swinging.....taking shots at everyone who spoke out against him the other day. Quote

Man I heard the same thing about the Bobcats! That is pretty sad because I have some good memories from my childhood going to Hornets games and it was great! I really don't watch basketball much anymore but I wouldn't go over there and pay money to listen to that crap and put my kids in that environment. As for Rush...I think the guy is great. But, Rams owner....hmmm not sure about that one. Obviously the NFL wasn't either. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted October 16, 2009 Super User Posted October 16, 2009 The league, which is made up of 32 teams haven't had a reason to vote on the group trying to buy the Rams. That group hasn't provided all the needed facts for team owners to vote yet, so it never got that far. I believe the rumor out there is the nfl players assoc. spoke out before anyone else had a chance. The simple fact that was used to the prospective group, "The NFL owners try to protect the NFL's image, Rush and his captive audience would not be good fit for the NFL image they are trying to protect." Quote
fathom Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 i dunno. fergie jlo serena each have said and done (in public) a lot worse...the nfl welcomed them with open arms. this has nothing to do with behaviour...it has everything to do with which side of the aisle you pour your coffee on. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted October 17, 2009 Super User Posted October 17, 2009 theres a huge debate for and against Rush. money vs image when the NFL is worried about image ill donate my boat and all my gear. this thread should just get locked down now and save time. Quote
preach4bass Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 Ok, so let me get this straight. What kind of folks can represent the NFL? Murders? Yes. Dog fighters? Yes. Thugs of every imaginable kind? Yes. Conservatives? NO! : ;D The funniest thing about this to me is that most of the owners would probably agree with Rush politically. ;D Quote
