R520dvx Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Deb and I bought a new Big Green Egg ceramic smoker/grill. It went for it's maiden voyage tonight with a couple of baked potatoes and rib eyes ..... the rib eyes weighed in at about 22 ounces each !! Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 13, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 13, 2009 So how was it?!? After all the hype we've heard about them (and even DB talking about them), we're thinking about getting one. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted June 13, 2009 Super User Posted June 13, 2009 Awesome! I bought a smoker about 5 months ago and love it. I have been experimenting a bit and so far so good. Quote
R520dvx Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 So how was it?!? After all the hype we've heard about them (and even DB talking about them), we're thinking about getting one. Glenn ... we have been exposed to a Big Green Egg through some friends of ours .... it is an amazing piece of equipment. You would absolutely love one. As for the meal .... I lit the Egg and brought it to about 400 degrees .... took about the same amout of time it takes to get our gas grill to that temp and we have a very good gasser. I put the potatoes on .... when the potatoes had about 10 minutes left, I opened up the vents on the Egg and in less than 5 minutes, it was up to 650 degrees!! I seared the steaks for 3 minutes each side and closed down the vents completely on the Egg and just let the steaks sit for about 4 more minutes as the Egg began to cool down. Th steaks were the most flavorful and by far the most juicy I have ever cooked. There is a forum eggheadforum.com that will give you an idea what people are doing with them from a user standpoint instead of advertising. Tomorrow, we are slow smoking 2 racks of baby back ribs !!! Super User cart7t Posted June 14, 2009 Super User Posted June 14, 2009 I went to the big green egg website and can't figure out where to buy one let alone see one in person. Which model do you have as the ones they have listed don't look like yours and.... how much? Quote
