After last Tuesday's run in with the teen driver doing $2,400 damage to my Xterra, and the air conditioning going out in my house I get home last night to find the storms that went through my area took out my 50 inch plasma tv.

Nothing else in the house was affected, even the Bose and Comcast HD box which were plugged into the same surge (so-called) protector.

Haven't been able to get out fishing in over two weeks either, need a change of luck. Going for a new position at my job I would really like to get, great career move. Need to get by this run of bad luck before that process starts....

When it rains, it pours.  Been through those times when the world seems it is out to get you.

Just make sure no job interview is scheduled for a Tuesday.

I know its too late and I am not sure what surge protector you used, but this is the one I suggest.

Sorry to hear about your string of bad luck.  Hopefully you have it all worked out of your system now.

As for protecting your plasma, this is the one I recommend: http://www.panamax.com/Products/A-V-Components/M5100-PM.aspx  We have this and it works wonders.

Most surge protectors only protect the manufacturer's bottom line.

A simple APC UPS battery back-up will do wonders for any electronics setup.

x2 that's what we use. We have one hooked up to the computer and all computer stuff and then another that is hooked up to the 50" flat screen and dvd, xbox, etc... They keep your electronics protected and even give you a few extra minutes of power. The only downside is that ours make this obnoxious beeping noise every 30 seconds or so whenever they are activated until you turn them off.

I'm old school...  when storms are coming, I just unplug the plasma tv.  It's on a surge protector but I just don't trust surge protectors much.

Im with Glenn on the recommendation.  Monster is good, but I like Panamax better.  Not as many people are familiar with them, but their systems are placed in probably 98% of that ATM machines in the US I believe it is.  I own Monster power protection, Panamax power protection and just placed this in wall for my new Panasonic plasma:
