R520dvx Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 These guys need some prayers ..... Patterson Point is a little south of where we are in Blood River ..... http://www.wpsdlocal6.com/news/local/story/3-Missing-After-Boat-Capsizes/LtL453JkcEuiLpV1-N4IUA.cspx :'( Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted April 26, 2009 Super User Posted April 26, 2009 Greg, any word as to why they capsized? Quote
R520dvx Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 We had some wind ..... 15 - 25, but it had started to lay by the time this happened ..... search teams from several counties are on the scene .... hopefully there will be some good news from this !! Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted April 26, 2009 Super User Posted April 26, 2009 Without a doubt, I hope so too. Quote
R520dvx Posted April 26, 2009 Author Posted April 26, 2009 Weheard this AM that there was another accident on Barkley .... 2 guys in a tournament were thrown from the boat .... one somehow got a rope tangled around his foot and was run over by the boat and the other drowned. Haven't heard this on the news, but a pretty reliable source. There are no confirmed updates on the others, but we heard one dead, one airlifted th Vanderbilt Hospital, and one still missing. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 26, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 26, 2009 That's tragic news. Prayers sent. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted April 26, 2009 Super User Posted April 26, 2009 I don't mind telling you that I found a new respect for water and boats while down there. My fishing experiance, up until Kenlake, had been out of a 50hp 16ft v hull on waters no larger than 1,000 acres (aside from Canada fishing). 21's and 225/250 hp boats on big water is definately to be taken serious, even with all the fun to be had. I hope and pray that for the families of these people. Quote
R520dvx Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 Local news confirms all 3 from Kentucky Lake found .... 2 dead, one survived .... they were setting trot lines in a jon boat. From Barkley, 1 dead, 1 survived ..... Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted April 27, 2009 Super User Posted April 27, 2009 Greg, I've fished BIG lakes before so I was aware of the potential dangers on KY lake during high wind conditions. Thanks to you, CJ and Bud, you were able to convey the these dangers to the less experienced road trip attendees. Well Done! Quote
Eddie Munster Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Prayers sent. One thing to note; water they drowned in was only 8 feet. Got to take safety seriously out there regardless of the depth. "Scott Barrow with Kentucky Fish & Wildlife is investigating the accident. He says according to the survivor, Lucas Sims, the back end of the boat had begun to fill with water before capsizing." Super User fishfordollars Posted April 27, 2009 Super User Posted April 27, 2009 That just sucks. Prayers to all. I hate to hear stories like that. Quote
