new principal (nobody likes him) has made it a rule that all honors science students are required to put in a science fair project

i hate science fair projects.

what are some good, not-so-difficult science fair project ideas?

O boo-hoo we always had to do them...

The best one I did was the effect of cold weather on paintball velocity and accuracy. Involved a 26 page research paper. >:(

Blow ____ up what do you think you should do. Do a project you can B.S. your way through it and still make a good grade.

no guidelines.

we are on our own.

How about which weapon fires a pickeral farther....

A. A cannon

B. A spud-gun

C. A Kentucky Rifle

It would envolve physics and a little chemistry.

my votes on spud gun.

pickerels are really the ideal projectile for a spud gun!

Ya, but you have to replace their slime coating with a coating of Carb Cleaner or WD-40.

How about "Hydrodynamics as it relates to swim baits."  You have learned a lot this year about displacement (density of wood + iron) and coefficient of drag (action). You may not know that you learned this, but you did.   Make it fun for you and you'll work harder and get a better grade.

I'm sure you could think of something involving fish. Two topics that come to mind are behavior and the effect of phamaceuticals. Pharmaceuticals have been coming about again because of drinking water but have been affecting fish for many years. Behavior you probably have a good jump on already.

Nice poster/trifold board or a slide show and a small report.

Let us know what you decide.

I agree on hydrodynamics or something that you can relate to your swimbaits. Something you're interested in is just as easy as something to BS through

Why try to coast?  Do some research, put forth an effort and give your position as an honor student validity.

Well, you can slack off but instead, why not do something good?

The best science fair project that I ever did (in like 7th grade), was to show the effect of cigarette smoke on plants. I bought 4 of the same type of plant (basically some green thing that didn't flower) and covered them all in saran wrap. Two of the plants did not get any cigarette smoke and the other two did (helps if your dad smokes). This is more of a longer term project and actually shows some pretty marked differences. The two plants that had the smoke were stunted significantly (like less than half the size) even years after the project was over.

Dave, this is my attitude toward school projects.

If you are forced to do something you don't enjoy doing, then you are going to BS your way through it just to get it done, which accomplishes nothing by a scientific viewpoint.

Choose something that you enjoy, something that you actually want to make a difference in.  It will more meaningful and successful this way.

I love getting together with my "smart" friends and having intelligent conversations.  We call it our "think tank".

Go change the world, and have fun doing it!

How do weather patterns affect fish? You could look at temp, percipitation, barometric pressure, and season. Than explain how and why.

My daughter did one last year on how vehicle emission effects soil.  Earned her 1st in her area of science,  3rd overall (she attended a school of science and technology) She went on to the county regionals and earned a scholarship from the department of the college in which the fair was held.  Maybe you should do something involving water quality and pollution. ("green" projects get a lot of attention)  Water quality is something that affects your line of recreation.

I agree with some of the others, don't just blow something up in the name of science- relate your project to something you are interested in (fishing as mentioned possibly), I actually *** you for having that opportunity sounds like fun and I miss those years of my life- do something you can look back on and say, "hey I tried my best and look at what I accomplished."

Dave: You are obviously a very bright and highly talented young man. Never waste time BS'sng that you can use honing your talent and learning something new. You only get esteemable situations one at a time and if you waste an oppurtunity to grow and shine, thats really not a good thing

Now doing something clever, from a humerous backround , to get and hold the audiences attention is not BSing. I am sure you can put something to gether that is educational to others and will stimulate your imagination, the rewards are priceless.
