The real metallica died before the black album.

only one died  ;)

the rest changed and moved on and still put out some great music!

that will be awesome if this whole album is on Guitar Hero: Metallica. i also cant wait for that guitar hero to come out.

does anyone know if GH: Metallica will be all metallica or if it will have several metallica songs and then some of the songs that influenced metallica, kinda like GH: Aerosmith?

X4

x5, 6, and 7 too...

I won't buy the new one.  The last four or five have been so boring.  It isn't Metallica anymore, it's like they are trying to copy whatever is currently hot in music in an attempt to stay relevant.

The clincher was St Anger.  It was so bad that I couldn't even believe it.  All I could hear was Christopher Walkin on SNL saying "More Cow Bell"...  Dreadful stuff...

I think the new song is another so-so attempt...

take Bassboy15 into consideration  ::) ;D

but maybe you dont understand...

i LOVE ALL metallica! i dont like just the new stuff or just the old stuff. i love it all. i have every single album on my Zune and a few live shows i downloaded from www.livemetallica.com i will however say that Load was my favorite album. i really like the musical involvement of it and how there is so much variety in that album. its not just the standard speed metal like very early metallica (which is still good by all means ;))

Metallica was thrash metal not speed metal.

The key word being "WAS".  They have fallen off big time.  At least they had 3 good albums.  All these people keep saying their new recordings sound like old metallica but they obviously don't have a clue what they're talking about.

This is real, new thrash

Sure they have changed but........... they can't be all bad because they are still selling and making millions. Something alot of bands haven't been able to do.

There definitely alot of differences in their early stuff and what's come out now. It's also kind of interesting too to see how they will change with each new album. Maybe we we should have started taking bets before the first song came out.

I started listening to Metallica in 1984 by way of a bootleg cassette that was given to me in New Orleans. Of course that was when the bootlegs and "word of mouth" got them around. I traveled many miles and spent alot of money to see them. I thought they WERE the greatest metal band ever and that would ever be. Then the black album came out, I thought it was good but not great. Then that atrocity Load signaled the end to Metallica(they should have removed the metal from their name). That and the napster issues made me sick. I have been waiting for the return of the real Metallica ever since. I listened to the song posted above, I am still waiting!!!!!!!

That about sums it up for me too.  I remember going to see them when they opened for Ozzy.  James had a cast on his arm which he broke skating.  Good times.

I've heard the new song a few times on the radio and I was not impressed.  I have to agree Metallica died with the black album.  They do play on bad azz show thought.  Bonaroo was amazing!

If you consider that song heavy in any way, you need to listen to their old stuff. This album is going to be like all their post black album softy watered down commercialized crap.

i like how musically involved and how much variety their newer music has. it is VERY different from their earliest work, but i like it equally as much.

Same song, present day (2 yrs ago)

No comparison in my eyes, I really dislike the 2nd performance  :(  People keep saying that they're old and blah blah blah but there are other bands from the same era that are just as old and they haven't crapped out as much.

But seriously the only Metallica albums anybody should really concern themselves with buying are RtL, MoP, plus AJFA.
