=Matt 5.0= Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 In my humble opinion, you can't beat a Kershaw or Benchmade. I have a pretty big collection, and my everyday knife is a Kershaw Ken Onion Whirlwind Speedsafe. Opens one handed in a millisecond. I have three of them and they are fantastic. http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=347 Quote
bowtech_182 Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 I have beat the snot out of my Benchmade Stryker tanto point with a part serrated blade on a daily basis for 13 years now and it is still going strong. My next knife will be another Benchmade. http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=8510 Right at $100 Quote

It's my go to carry knife and have yet to find one that is as nice in the same price range Quote
guitarkid Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Stick with the gerber, besides if you pay a little bit extra, about $10, you can get a tool kit with it. plus they stay sharp forever. -searoach Quote

I'm wanting 154cm, which is a better quality steel and holds it's edge considerable better than 440. I thought about going to D2, but I've always heard it's a pain to sharpen. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 24, 2008 Super User Posted July 24, 2008 i'll tell you my favorite knife. Boker Magnum Automat Kalashnikov 74 http://www.eknifestore.com/knife/BO-KALS74DES.html only reason i dont carry it often is because it is illegal to carry a switchblade in my state. :-/ its a great knife, very lightweight, sharp, and holds an edge great! out of all the knives that i own, this is by far my favorite. AnthonyRSS Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 There are several different kinds of 440. 440a -sucks. 440c is great, though, and one of the steels that steels were judged by for a long time. Buck uses a 440-something. However, Paul Bos does there heat treat and he is the best bar none. There are three things in a knife steel-corrosion resistance, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. 154cm is a good combination of all three. D2 holds an edge better but is a pain to resharpen. M2 is the same way. There are charts online that list the knife steels and there attributes. Anthony Quote

bowtech_182 Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 While you are at it just go ahead an buy a Lansky or Gatco sharpener. They are the best sharpener that I have found and will give you a precision and repeatable edge. http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=499 Quote
