BillyBob Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Was at a boat and tackle show last weekend, and a bait mfg. asked me if his bait company that was still making baits in america ment anything to me? I said yes, but on the way home I got to thinking that I hadn't paid any attention to it, so when I got home I looked at what I bought, only his said made in the USA. Guess I'll look closer from now on. Mean anything to you !
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted March 5, 2008 Super User Posted March 5, 2008 Often times it's a deciding factor between 2 alternatives for me. I try to buy American as much as possible, but I will not buy an inferior product just because it's made in the USA. For example, the other day I was buying a new pair of shoes. There was about 3 pairs I liked and couldn't make up my mind. I looked where all were made. Only one was made in the USA. That was my deciding factor, even though they were the most expensive out of the 3 by about 15%. So I guess my answer is yes and no.
Super User fourbizz Posted March 5, 2008 Super User Posted March 5, 2008 I will ONLY fish American made swimbaits. These guys are in it to make a fish sticking bait, not make a buck. Beyond that, I dont really care. I think the japanese make wonderful products. The chinese, not so much.
Super User Sam Posted March 5, 2008 Super User Posted March 5, 2008 No, not really. Most goods are made overseas so why penalize yourself and not purchase the best available products. What gets me is that Toyota has more parts made in the USA in their cars than the Big-3 in Deriot. And don't forget where we get our baseballs for the National Pastime. It ain't New Jersey.
Branuss04 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Not really. if it's something I want, i'm going to get it if it's made in the USA or overseas. Obviously i like buying stuff that's made in the USA, but sometimes it's like finding a needle in a haystack
Super User flechero Posted March 5, 2008 Super User Posted March 5, 2008 I prefer to buy American made, but like KU, I won't buy something inferior just because of that... On the flip side, I will pay more for American made if I feel the quality is as good or better. And I will go out of my way to look for American made alternatives on bigger purchases. Admittedly, I rarely look for that info on small purchases.

But the Automobile Trade Policy Council says the domestic content of all Toyota vehicles sold in the United States -- including imported models -- is 48 percent. Honda's is 59 percent and Nissan's 45 percent. For GM and Ford, the domestic parts content is 73 percent, and for DaimlerChrysler, it's 72. : Yes I do work for General Motors my plant is home of the 2006 North American Car OF The Year Saturn Aura and the 2007 North American Car of the year Cheverolet Malibu. 85% US made parts in both vehicles. 8-) .

Your right 6% of those vehicles come here as overflow for the other 4 north american plants when they cant meet demand. 32% stay in Mexico and 62% of those vehicles are sent to South America mostly Brazil. Also It wouldnt be my GMC. My GMC Envoy was built in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and my Silverado was built in Fort Wayne,Indiana. My boat was made in Clinton, Missouri. My rods are made in Houston Texas. So far I have bought one Ardert reel also made in Missouri . Will replace the rest of my reels with them as needed. Carhardt jeans and New Balance shoes you have to look for both that are US made but there available.
Pencil Pusher Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Which is worse, goods produced in America by a foreign company or goods produced in a foreign country by an American company?
Super User flechero Posted March 5, 2008 Super User Posted March 5, 2008 Yeah and your GMC vehicle is assembled right here 20 miles from León where I live .... in Silao, Guanajuato Mexico. GM has assembly plants all over the place..... and I think the vast majority of its vehicles sold in the US are assembled in the US. Which is worse, goods produced in America by a foreign company or goods produced in a foreign country by an American company? either is better than a foreign owned and assembled product. A domestic company with domestic manufacturing is best, IMO.
llPa1nll Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Which is worse, goods produced in America by a foreign company or goods produced in a foreign country by an American company? well put...

Admittedly, I rarely look for that info on small purchases. Ditto that. I go for quality first. The only time I go cheap is if its on something I will only use once for a job. For instance a reciprocating saw blade. I bought one to cut a door jam out. Will never be used again. So I spent 1.5 instead of 15 bucks.
tkite16 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 The problem is all companies are starting to build there products in the country they plan to sell them. For better or worse its the Global economy. Toyota builds plants here to sell cars here . GM builds plants in South America to sell cars in South America . My first coice buy US made from a US company Second choice buy US made from foreign company(at least this supports the workers) Third choice buy foreign made from US company(least profits come home) Fourth choice foreign made from foreign company only if 1-3 are not available.
Guest muddy Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 We are in an international market place now, and that will grow more and more. My Fenwicks,Pfluegers and a lot of other stuff are made elsewhere and I get hours of satisfaction from them. When I need something, I see how much i have to spend and then look for something i am satisfied with, place of origin is really not important for me This little puppy is Made in China; It is fast, light and accurate. jrhennecke Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I would love to buy American every chance that I could. But the fact is that there are quite a few countries that can make products of the same quality for cheaper.

But the fact is that there are quite a few countries that can make products of the same quality for cheaper. It's called "sweat shops". :-/ For one i'm highly against this, but to be truthful some things i buy i wouldn't second guess it's where they came from. There was a few of them down in TX when i worked there.Mostly illegals and welfare people. Your board games you buy for the family for late night fun, people who make and assemble these are paid next to nothing with no benefits.Look how much they go for in stores now.Yet the people who make these are hitting minimum wages and maybe work 2-3 days out of the week.Depending on the demand of the product. :-?
jrhennecke Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 The thing is Muddy is right. This is a global economy like it or not. I think we would all like to buy American whenever we can. I don't see were Muddy works has to do with anything.
