BassDeaton01 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I have been told there are some good ponds on this base to bass fish. I heard there was around 20 or 30 or so. Has anyone fished here? I live about an hour away and am wanting to make it down there sometime if the fishing is good. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote

I recommend you try to confirm they're open before making the drive. Then again, I don't know exactly how to do that either Quote
gabassman Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 You have to go to the pass and permit office on hwy 144 and pay $30 for a year permit. To fish an area you have to call in to see if the area is open and check in if so, then check out when you leave. Be prepared for DNR to inspect you because they are out there quite a bit. Fishing can vary because there is some pressure out there but the plus side is that areas can be closed down for a while and this helps the pond settle. Been fishing there about 5 times. Outside of the small ones I have caught five 2 to 3.5 lb bass. For more info they have a pretty good website. Hope this helps Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted September 15, 2009 Super User Posted September 15, 2009 I have hunted hogs on Ft. Stewart and been to the Pass and Permit building. If the pictures on the wall are any indication of what is swimming in those ponds, then an hour's drive should be well worth it on the right day. The Ft. Stewart site has info on all the ponds. There were quite a few areas that were closed when we were there and the areas that were open had been that way for months, leaving almost no huntable game in those zones. It all depends on where the Army is practicing at that given time. We were told that if you can hit it when the area is just opened up, it is like heaven. I am sure this translates into fishing as well... Quote
