Super User Shane J Posted October 1, 2011 Super User Posted October 1, 2011 Yeah, I pretty much find that to be true most of the time. Bigger baits, with bigger profiles, may get you less fish overall, but will more often than not, land you the biggest (or most aggressive) fish in the area you are targeting. That's more my style. I'm not just fishing for fish, I'm fishing for THE fish (Big O told me that once, and I've adopted the same philosophy). 1 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted October 8, 2011 Super User Posted October 8, 2011 It's supposed to be beautiful tomorrow, so where's everybody fishing? I haven't decided yet, but the boat's loaded and itchin' for some fishin'! Quote
Nashua Nev Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 I am pretty sure i am going to Massabessic. I would like to go to Bow lake or Northwood but dont have time. Need to be home back in Nashua for 10 am. Jon boat has a new, used trailer so i can use the boat again. Any better ideas to go? that are not too far from Nashua? Stumpfield takes me an hour. Massabessic less than 1/2 hour. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted October 9, 2011 Super User Posted October 9, 2011 I'm hitting Cobbetts first thing in the mornin. Its been over a week and a half so I'm itchin! Quote
Super User Shane J Posted October 9, 2011 Super User Posted October 9, 2011 Yeah, I'm dying to get out to Cobbett's, but what's up with it? Is it private? Where's the launch. I have a buddy whose mom just bought a house on it, so I know I'll be on it at some point, but I'm not sure about whether or not I can yet. For tomorrow, I think I'm gonna hit Gregg Lake in Antrim. Super User deaknh03 Posted October 9, 2011 Super User Posted October 9, 2011 Shane, it is private, residents only. If you know someone on the pond your psyched. One of the best fisheries around. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted October 9, 2011 Super User Posted October 9, 2011 Well, I'll see you out there then. Next Sunday, it's on! I got my peeps on it right now. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Gumpas in Pelham also . Completely private unless you know someone on the water. I got skunked today at Massabessic. Quote
eloo Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Have really enjoyed viewing all the great posts and pictures. Thanks guys. Have been somewhat remiss with my own posts, however. Out on 10-4-11 after it had been raining for 3-4 days in a row. Felt that the odds were against me for numbers so I threw a 4in. keel weighted swimbait hoping to entice the big girl. Happy to report that she obliged. 7.1 lbs a personal best. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Quote
Super User Shane J Posted October 10, 2011 Super User Posted October 10, 2011 Nice fish, Eloo! Congrats on the PB. Quote
nhbassin Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Yeah Eloo! That is a monster! Congrats on the new PB. Quote
Rob463mx Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Hey guys Ive been on this site for a bit but never registered until today..I am a southern nh local as well. I do a lot of fishing around this area and probably have met a few of you already. I recently went out to powder mill pond while the water was up and caught this 4lb er' And we had such a great day we decided to go back and apparently they opened the dam up and the water level dropped significantly and this happened So boaters beware the terrain changes dramatically and VERY quickly. I live in the concord area so I nor ally do the turee and turtle pond route. I just went out to turtle and caught a handfulll of pickerel saw a few bass hanging out deep but wanted nothing to do with my baits. Anyone around this area that wants to hook up and go fishin let me know I have an 18 foot bass tracker that seats 2 comfortably. Rob Quote
Super User Shane J Posted October 19, 2011 Super User Posted October 19, 2011 Right on, Rob. I'm sure I'll see you around. Glad you signed up, we got a good group of guys from NH on here. Ps- I'll be out on Turkey on Sunday Quote
Rob463mx Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Hey Shane I may try to get out there as well considering its 10 min from me. What time are you heading out there? Give me a call 603.216.7831 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted October 19, 2011 Super User Posted October 19, 2011 I would guess around 7:00 or so. When was the last time you got out there? Quote
Nashua Nev Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 nothing but pickerel on slow slow crankbaits the last 2 weeks Quote
nhbassin Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 I got 1 bass last week on a shallow crankbait, but mostly pickerell as well. Time to hit up the power plant in Bow before the EPA restricts the warm water outflows! Quote
Nashua Nev Posted November 13, 2011 Author Posted November 13, 2011 The big girls and the little guys are still around, they still have to eat. I just have had no luck. As long as the water is still not frozen , just have to learn more about finding them this time of year. I have been using bombers and crankbaits slow, slow, slow, and stopping for a second every 3rd or 4th rotation. Bigger crank baits instead of smaller ones. Unfortunately only the Pickerel have been fooled. Quote
Push_Button_Bassin Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I got 1 bass last week on a shallow crankbait, but mostly pickerell as well. Time to hit up the power plant in Bow before the EPA restricts the warm water outflows! I hear you Nashua. It's tough fishing but I've been having good luck switching between weighted tube worms and deep diving crankbaits. I read something the other day that said to fish away from the weed beds because they suck up the oxygen while they're dying off and it worked like a charm yesterday and I boated 4 bass in the 2-3 lbs range fishing with my back towards the weeds. Quote
nhbassin Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 I managed to get 2 bass in the 1 pound range and a few pickerell all on bitsy bug jigs with a twin tail grub trailer today. This is the latest in the season I have caught bass, other than through the ice, and it felt great to get my bass fix before winter starts. Quote
Push_Button_Bassin Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Going to be a glutton for punishment and give the bass another shot. Last weekend (except for a 3 lb pickerel) and yesterday, I couldn't scare up a single bite. I'd still rather be fishing than Christmas shopping. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted January 2, 2012 Author Posted January 2, 2012 Got my license today and made it out to the Pennichuck for about an hour. 1 bite on a slow crankbait. not too many spots left around here to fish from shore. Quote
fmoore Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Went ice fishing last Friday and again Monday before I had to head back to NY for school Tuesday. Definitely lost some ice over the weekend (cutting 3" in the thin spots), and the dog went through twice around the shoreline on Monday. Friday we caught about 20 pickerel and a half dozen perch for a half day. Nothing big, but it was great to be on the ice again. Monday was more of the same with a few little largemouth thrown in.
