Super User BrianinMD Posted April 11, 2016 Super User Posted April 11, 2016 Can only imagine how bad the river was Saturday, Anna was ugly (I fish in the same club as Logan). When was the incoming tide? A tide going against those winds makes it a whole lot worse. I had a pretty good day at Anna fishing wise, ended up with a limit for 12 pounds even to win the co-angler side. My boater had a great plan to not run main lake and stay in a protected cover which fortunately was holding some fish. 1 Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 High was like 9 930 and it really was not that bad until 10...then all hell broke loose. There was no hiding anywhere from it. Dont forget to add in the SNOW..  really?!!!! Lol.....Congrats on that win at anna. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted April 11, 2016 Super User Posted April 11, 2016 Anyone been to Walkingfish pond in Crofton lately? I have the fluke bug and am thinking of stopping by on the way home from work. I spent about 10 hours at Governor's Bridge yesterday and aside from a 12"er right at dusk, it was a total skunk. I worked the upper and lower ponds with a fluke for the first half of the day, then went around again with a Ned and small swimbaits on a 1/16" jig. People were pulling trout out all day but I couldn't get the bass to even swat any anything I was throwing. I am going to try a buzzbait and some smallish spinnerbaits next time to see if they want more noise. Does anyone else fish here? I also found the oddest rig in the muck. It was a medium lipless crank, with a thick mono main line, then the lure tied on like a dropshot hook, then maybe 16" down were two 2oz bank sinkers tied on. I cannot figure out what the heck someone was doing with this thing. Quote

Ive been to governors bridge a bunch of times never really caught much there. Better off goin to the pax river down the street and catch some perch lol. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted April 11, 2016 Super User Posted April 11, 2016 Governor's Bridge is so convenient for me to get to I cannot resist  trying it. I can usually catch a couple of dinks and a decent fish or two in the smaller pond but have literally caught two bass (or the same one twice, they were only like 3 casts apart) in 2.5 years in the main lake. It looks like such perfect habitat that I cant give up on it. I also keep trying to fish the Pax but between the current and eternally stained water, I never have much luck.  Quote
patred Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 My best trip to Walking Fish Pond was walking right past it to the Little Patuxent River and catching a 15" smallmouth, a channel catfish and a fallfish. Pat Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted April 12, 2016 Super User Posted April 12, 2016 Spent about 90m at Walkingfish yesterday. Did a quick lap working a fluke to check out the pond. It's a nice looking spot with some really decent looking habitat. I didn't get any hits so I went and grabbed a casting rod to work a chatterbait around some of the larger fallen trees. I lost two of the dam things in maybe 15m. I am so used to fishing either from a kayak where I can just paddle over and free it or bank fishing mucky ponds that I was not paying enough attention to wood while retrieving. I then switched to a spinnerbait and lost it trying to make a fancy cast beyond my abilities. So now that pond owes me $25 worth of bass and I am going to collect it at some point. Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 For me the chatterbait does not do well around wood. Love it around grass but laydowns always seem to grab it. Try a light swim jig around that wood. SJ comes through everything. SJ is an ATB. Quote
JigMe Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I would probably not try to fish Chatterbait around wood as well. Try pitch/flipping a Jig or creature bait around stumps and laydowns. You can fish a squarebill and it wont snag as much. Quote

Super User Deleted account Posted April 13, 2016 Super User Posted April 13, 2016 This wind has kept me off the Bay rockfishing, so I've hit a bunch of little water in PG and Charles County last couple of weeks. Its been pretty good with LMB, pickerel and crappie, some days better than others, depending on the wind. A lot of big fish shallow right now. squarebill, spinnerbait, and swimjig has been the ticket. Quote

Pat I will take the hint and head to the river today after work. I have never had a problem with chatterbaits hanging up before, its pretty annoying as I really like them. I am still pretty new at bass fishing and thus far I don't have any real skill with cranks or jigs, nor do I really have a good rod for either. I do have some creature baits I can try to toss at cover though. My early fishing was all for panfish, perch, and pickerel, so I am just now coming around to the idea that I might need a rod heaver then a ML Quote

Thanks I will definitely check it out. Stuck over here threw the week  building a Harris teeter and two small building. Needed to find a better place to catch some fish. Pretty much fished out the two ponds across from the job site. Quote
Bwickfisher Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Gotta love farm ponds. White spinner and bluegill Lindy darter. 3 Quote

Caught one on a 10.5in black grape zoom worm, my first fish on a big worm. Just throwing out as far as I could and soaking it, twitching the rod 3-4 times every 20 seconds or so. I just started fishing slow recently, so it was kind of painful, but I'm very happy with the results. My buddy caught a 3+ lber right after on a netbait paca craw in watermelon magic. Fish weighed 4.14lbs. Nice Catch, I will probably hit Rocky Gorge this weekend. 1 Quote
imagine29028 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Hitting Mattawoman tomorrow for a kayak tourney. Really havent fished much this year (moved & new job) so it will be good to just get out. High Tide is 930 at Indian Head, so first few hours should be good. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted April 15, 2016 Super User Posted April 15, 2016 Nice looking fish. My RG plan is being delayed by an unexpected work trip, I hope the nice weather holds until next week. I hit some local ponds yesterday while running errands. It was an endless sea of dinks hitting lures far far too large for them. Look at this little guy, while I admire his spunk, I got a little sick of them after the tenth or so fish of this size. I couldn't keep a lure in the water without some little bass throwing it's self at it. I finally got a casting rod out of my car and tried a 12" Jelly worm, but they would attack that too. I can only hope they stay this aggressive when they grow up.    1 Quote
patred Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Reminds me of fishing one time on the Potomac last year using 3" worms and catching nothing but 10-11-inch smallmouth. So I switched to a 4" worm and caught 9-10-inch smallmouth. Pat Quote
Fried Lemons Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 I went to Swain's Lock today. Had to walk a long way, but I found the bigger fish. All caught on a 2" power grub on a 1/16 jig of all things. Also hooked into a 10lb+ carp but unfortunately the hook bent after a long tussle. 19" 20" 1 Quote
basser89 Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 Seems like forever since I've had a chance to fish Black Hills but managed to get out this morning for a little while. Managed 3 in the one pound range on a chatterbait. 2 Quote
nastynate Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I was able to squeeze in 3 hours of boat time this evening. By the way my 10# floro looked after forcing this fat girl out of the brush I made the right call on netting instead of flipping her into the boat. Shakey head did the trick for me. Had some even chase it in on the retrieve. 6 Quote
