Put the KVD 2.5 in the tree last night. Went to get in and I was in for a surprise. At the dusky hour my hand made it the closet it's ever wanted to be to a ticked off wasp nest of some sort. Trolling motor to 100 and zoom out......snap!! they can have it. Being afraid of bees and being inches away from putting my hand in the danger zone I almost had my first panic attack. But on the other note the fish loved the crank bait all afternoon.

Allen, I was comming in hot and had the crank bait in sight. About 4 feet from the bait I thought to my self... Why the hell are all these flys in this tree, ( must have been the rain . About when my hand got 8 inches away from grabbing the tree I seen the nest and that unwelcoming buzz is when I **** my pants and hit the deck. I panicked for what seemed like eternity getting the trolling motor dissorented under the danger zone. Scrambling to gain control of the trolling motor and out to safety I surely thought Drew or I was getting stung.

Bass were biting well at Sewell's Orchard in Columbia this evening. Caught a few little guys in an hour and a half or so.  Black and blue was the way to go.

Just and FYI, but after years of fishing in trees, I can confirm you will not catch any fish there.  Yes, I know, trees are cover and bass like cover, apparently it has to be under water though.

I got skunked an hour this morning :( I do believe that all three of the ponds have largemouth.  I have caught them in the smaller upper two ponds, and other fisherman there have told me they catch them out of the lower pond.  I usually fish the middle pond simply because it is less walking from where I park.  PM me.  We should fish sometime.  Seem to go to a lot of the same places.

Hi all,

Pretty new to fishing and brand new to this forum - I live in St Mary's county.  Was wondering where everyone fishes down my way.  Also, I really know no one that fishes even close to me so anyone looking let a newbie tag along and try to learn some things?  I'm 31, FYI.

Hey everyone.  Been a while since I posted on here.  My wife moved back to the eastern shore to live with her sister cuz that was the only place she could find work.  Were both hoping to move back down there in the next few months but in the mean time we've been cabin-camping every other week or so at Tuckahoe State Park.  Fishing Lake Tuckahoe a lot since it's right there by the cabin and the private farm pond down there that we love.  Caught a couple of decent fish (for that lake) on my Hula Popper and jigs.  Living up here in B-more County I've been fishing Loch Raven a lot and the fish are a lot bigger but I miss living in the country.  I'll take catching smaller fish for not having to live in Dundalk any day of the week.  My wife and brother did catch a couple nice ones at the Loch recently though.  Even rented a boat there a couple of times.  Summer fishing has been kind of tough.  Can't wait for the fall bite to pick up.  Anyway, hope everyone's having a good season.  Here's a couple of recent pics.

Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum and relatively new to fishing. But I've been watching lots of videos and learning many new things. I'm in Frederick, and I only get a chance to fish small ponds most of the time (Whittier, Cullur Lake, etc.) Once in a while I get over to Black Hills. I fish for bass and that's pretty much it. I'm a 35-year-old married man with 3 little boys, so I don't get out much. lol

Look forward to learning things on here and maybe picking up some new fishing-buddies.

Got up to Harpers Ferry for some wading Wed night.  Managed 8 mostly on a wacky 4" senko. Nothing big enough to post pictures.  The river is nice and clear.  I'm hoping to get the yak out to Black hill's tomorrow afternoon, or put in up at Mouth of the Monocacy to hit the Potomac, depends on how much I feel like paddling up river since I don't have float buddy to arrange transportation if I float down the river and want a ride back up to the Jeep.  I hit my brother up tonight to see if he wants to take the jon boat out, not sure if he is free yet.

I'd welcome you to the boards but since I'm already friends with you, suck it!  I only stayed at Whittier tonight for about an hour and 1/2. I didn't have any advil so my back was really hurting.  Plus, I just can't get into that place so I wasn't feeling it.

Fished the Potomac at Mouth of Monocacy this afternoon in the Yak.  The smallmouth were rocking, I however had some issues.  This is the 1st time I tried a wacky rigged Senko's out in the river and the hook I used failed me.  I managed 6-8 fish tonight but missed another 10 that got off.  It's either the hook or me but after I missed a few I started setting the hook like the Hulk but still had too many get off.  Some even fought me to the yak and then just let go when they got close.

So either it's my hook set or bad hook.  I used a size 1/0 Wacky Weedless by VMC I think is the brand, I picked them up at bass pro over the winter.  I'll attach a pic of what I used. I think I just need to upgrade to some Gamakatsu hooks, is 1/0 still a decent size for 5" Senko's.

So I'm looking for hook suggestions or hook set techniques for Wacky rigged.  I did have them rigged with a o-ring.  I'm a little upset with myself, 1st  I had tonight jumped and threw it and it was an easy 15" smallie.

I will caveat this answer with this is not normally how I fish senko's, I usually do t-rigged. But what I found when I do it is I have more luck using the regular non-weedless versions, and a quick sharp snap hookset. Doing a strong hookset on those small hooks will pull them out without getting a set into the fish.

Good to hear they were biting so good, hopefully soon I can get out there.

The hook isn't the problem necessarily. Putting a 5" senko on a hook that small is probably the issue, have you tried a little bit bigger of a hook?? I'd only use a hook that small on a much smaller worm, because it leaves no room on the hook to catch the fish when you set it.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll grab a bit bigger hook and see if that helps.

When I wacky rig senko style baits, I use a wide gap finesse gammy. How I "set" the hook fishing these is just reel up any slack and move the rod in thr opposite direction the fish is swimming. Basically just letting the fish hook itself.

With that said, anyone want to teach me to fish again ? LOL! Got out this morning for the first time in like 2 months. Wanted to do a little frog fishing so hit the beaver pond over by big pool, got blanked but did manage to tune in the new reel finally.

I'll teach you where they are in Baker Park, actually landing them, nope.  I'm going through an "unlucky" phase. I ran up there tonight for about 30 mins.  1st one on was easy 4-5 pounder, he decided he didn't like me and breached the surface 2 feet from me and spit the hook.  I think I heard him laughing too.  That's twice in 1 week that little basshole did that too me.  I did catch his little brother though.

Hitting the Potomac with some new hooks for my wacky rig tomorrow after work and hope my hook up is better this time out.  If my issues continue I may be the 1st person to wacky rig with a treble hook.  This is my 1st year really working a wacky rig, I'll accept the missed fished.  The fact I'm actually get hits is enough to show me I'm doing it right.

Setting the hook does not work well with those circle hooks. I had the same problem but it is hard to "un-learn" setting the hook. Just reel and apply pressure as they will hook themselves like a drop shot rig.

Just those BPS hooks that give you the problems.

In hindsight I believe the rod you were using wasn't heavy enough for the way we were fishing.

I did much better tonight with the Gamakatsu 2/0 hooks, I landed 12 out on the Potomac at Mouth of Monocacy with no real issue losing them. I wish I didn't have to spend so much time paddling the kayak up river, it's taking time out of my fishing, LOL.  I'd say average size was 10" but a few a little over 12".  All I know is the Potomac is on fire now and I hope it stays that way until Nov.

I'm paddling up to the point of the 1st island and drifting down a tad left  center of the river.  I haven't drifted down past the Mouth of the Monocacy because I don't don't feel like paddling back up once I'm done fishing.

I'm trying to get my brothers to get the Jon boat out this weekend, but the one with the boat keeps blowing off my texts.  I don't have my boaters license yet, so I can't take it out alone and the trailer sucks. It's so hard to load it alone. We don't have trailer guides for it.  I'll have to get my boaters license over the winter so I can just go take the boat.  I'd get one of my own, but I don't have parking for a trailer :(  I think the wife would kill me if I came home with one also, so there's that. One day . .

Are you talking about the boaters safety course? I took mine online like 10 years ago and no-one has ever ask to see the card.

Loading and unloading just takes some practice that's all.

That be the one. I'll never get stopped, hell, never seen DNR out where I fish ever. But I just can't take the chance.

I took my course online. It took about 5hrs start to finish. That being said I just got the card a few months ago and I've had a boat for about 3yrs now. I've also never been checked. Even when stopped all they ask for is my fishing license. It's basically common sense stuff on the test. Take a day and get it done.

Hello folks. I'm from Columbia, MD and new to this forum. My fishing experience is as follows: I bought my first rod/reel a week ago from Bass Pro. I'm hoping to turn it into a hobby my whole family can enjoy. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions for you guys.
