Lure Retrievers

What brand lure retriever do you have? I lost a Lucky Craft (RC 2.5DD) this weekend :'( and felt it might be time to invest in one of these. Sure sucked to see $15 go down the drain.

i have the bill dance one. it works ok. ive only had to use it once on a heavily snagged rattle trap it got the lure back but one of the hooks broke off. Better to lose a hook than the whole bait.

i use a bull dog retriever w/ a retrctable dog leash. this is nice because you dont have to wind line and if your in a tournament it saves time! i got the dog leash at harbor frieght for $5.

I believe they are either made by Lucky Craft or Tournament Force but there are split rings that bend out when you apply a certain amount of pull (in pounds). Great choice. But you loose your trebles. :

I make my own. I use a 4oz trolling sinker with a large split ring (like for car keys) on one end. In that split ring I have 8, 6" lengths of small chain and a large snap. On the other end I tied a spool of construction line (yellow) with arbor purchased at Lowe's. When I get hung up, I just put the snap on the line, let it down to the lure, jiggle it a little (if the weight dosen't knock it off) to hook the lure hooks with the chain, and pull it loose. I have one in each boat and one in my tackle bag. All the parts were cheaper than the production model retrievers before mentioned.

I've got the extendable pole with the spiral wire on the end and the ring on the string with the hooks you slide down the line. The pole isn't the most graceful thing to use and by the time you beat around down there everything in 1/2 mile has left town, but it works. Pretty long even retracted. Takes up some room. Never not got one back with it. I believe both Cabelas and BP sell it.

Don't worry about it, thats just part of the sport. I lost a sammy on my first cast with it. Should have checked the line for knicks...

I've got a guy locally who makes something similar to the bulldog one pictured.  Clip it onto the line and sling it down.  It works quite well on treble-hooked lures, not so well on worms or spinnerbaits.

I've got one of the BPS retrievers, but I can never remember to get it out.  The one mentioned above stays on the deck of my boat all the time.

Just be sure to retie the knot when you get it or you WILL lose both the lure and the lure retreiver.

The telescopic lure retriever from bass pro shops works great if your lure is caught in less than 18' of water. Basically never fails.

The bill dance, hound dog type retiever works well for deeper baits but it has a much lower sucess rate. Both should be in your boat, especially if you like to throw 10 dollar plus jerkbaits like I do.

I just recently got the Cabela's lure retriever. Seeing how i plan to try more treble lures this year once the bass season opens.

Anybody use the cabela's snag master one?

Several years ago I was asked to do some product testing on a Lure Retriever and to this day it is still the one that I use. It is called the Go-Get-It. It fits right in my rod locker and extends out to I think 15' or 18'. I am not sure what the price is, but I remember it wasn't bad at all. During my testing of the product I was crashing Lucky Craft baits into a brush pile that was 10' - 12' deep and I never lost one.

I think if you do a search on google for Go-Get-It lure retriever you can find it. They used to have review that I did for them on their site. Except for when they copied my review they didn't spell check their version and they had made tons of typing errors and that kind of bothered me. (not that it has anything to do with the product lol)
