Hello all. I was just wondering if anyone knew how the fishing for largemouths is at pinchot lake? Im planning a trip there in the next few days and am not from the area. So are they active or spawnning right now?

Thanks in advanced  ;D

I would imagine that there are more on here that have better news for ya, but I didn't do very well on the lake.  I went twice and caught one dink each time.  I couldn't figure out the lake, I don't really like fishing the electric only lakes as I am not set up for that really.

Like I said, I am sure that there are people that have much better luck than I have had.

I have gone there quiet a few times and have caught quiet a few bass. Usually on shinners. However, This year has me stumped with the late summer weather and what not. I'm really not sure where fish are spawnning and where there active in the pa regions. For example...I just got back from a 5 day trip from pymatuning lake. The water tempture there was 65 degrees and me and a friend didn't even boat a single bass..caught nothing but perch. Needless to say it was a waste of $300.00 So were trying to find some good bass fishing in the york, lewisberry, or dover pa aeras.

You do realize that the PA bass spawn occurs mostly in May and June, right?

65 at Pymatuning? That seems awfully chilly, even for a northern PA lake.

I dont know man.... :-?

Where are you at in Chambersburg?

Ummm in the main town of chambersburg...LOL thats the town name. Its close to Caledonia State Park if that helps.

As to your comment about spawnning in May and June. No I did not. Obiviously im not the greatest bass fisher. I have been fishing for years since a kid but never had anyone to show me the ropes. I have just recently started doing research on the best techniques and bait and everything else.

I'm not affraid to admitt that Im no genious when it comes to bass fishing. Thats why I joined this forum in hopes to learn as much as I can.

I have heard that this time of year you want to be using top water baits. Like frogs, jiggs ect ect.

I actually meant "where" in Chambersburg?  I live in Fayetteville.

On East Queen Street. Im sure you have seen the boat if you go into town any. BIG ole thing. 16 foot long flat bottom. Looks like a giant black tank...LOL. It was built by myself and a friend of mine from the ground up. We will all have to get together sometime and do some fishing.

I'll have to keep my eye out for it.  Usually dont go through town unless I am going fishing out that way.

Glad to have another local on here.

It could be 65 depending on where you fish. If you fish where a large stream comes into the lake it could easily be 65. I was fishing Beltzville in July and the temp was around 60 where big creek comes in, but 65 throughout the whole lake..... slim chance.

I was there last weekend camping and put my boat in at the camp ground ramp.  From the ramp I fished the shoreline and had some luck over by the cabins and alot the shoreline to the day area of the park. There is alot of grass. I was using pumkinseed 6" power worms.  Go in the evening. I'm heading up there next week to give it another try. Hope this helps.

A better way to put that is to fish the upper flats. Go in at the launch located at Rt. 177 bridge and fish the flats and creek channel from the headwaters to the camp grounds . Don't let the weeds keep you out of the flats. This area holds the most oxygenated water this time of year. You can also view this on my lake structure maps if intrested.
