Largemouth Bass: 10 lbs., 6 oz.       24 ½"       May1991 Carbuncle Pond       N. Finamore, Johnston, RI

Smallmouth Bass: 5 lbs., 15 oz 22 ½"       Sept. 1977 Wash Pond       B. Ferris, Wakefield, RI

Chain Pickerel       6 lbs. 14 oz. 27 ¾" Aug. 2005 Beach Pond       T. Egan,Hope Valley, RI

It's that time of year agian for me when I attempt to knock off the state Smallie record. Around this time last year, I started seeking the SM record and came darn close in Janruary w/a 5.3lb. During one of these outings on the same body of water, w/o realizing it until I got home and checked the records,I broke the RI Pickerel record, :'( 7.8lb monster :D Starting this weekend, I'm going back for another try. Will it happen? Or will the records stay as is? Will they ever be broken? Will anyone ever beat the LM record? I think the LM record will stay as is for some time to come, but also believe the SM and Pickerel records are beatable.

I don't know Tin...

I have a feeling that the smallie will go first. Probably by someone who isn't even fishing for smallies with live bait!!!! :D

People fish in the Reservoir (and the surrounding off limits branches) all the time, you know that. I have said it before and will say it again.....to enter a fish as a "record" or even show photos of fish caught from these "illegal" areas is a SIN and those doing it are no more than "petty theives" of the fishing world, if you know what I mean!!! Sorry, but the "Reservoir" subject just sets me off!!!!

The largemouth record will fall before the smallmouth one would. And chances are it would come out of the Scituate Res, again... :-X

I agree that the LM record will fall again, it was only a few yrs ago that it went from 10.2 to 10.6.  Each year there are more and more swimbaiters out there also.  Bigger fish are being caught with consistency.  There are people like Paul who are out there specifically to find that fish.  Guess what,...he's got company, count me in!

I say there's a very good chance a record will be broken and a good chance it will be done by a BassResourcer :D

As for the insinuation that it came from the Res,....It was caught by an old guy fishing meal worms in a trout pond that noone else would ever bother to fish.

It was caught on opening day, a week these fish are surely conditioned to expect fresh trout to start pouring into their living rooms.

Sounds like the perfect place/time to bag the overlooked DD that has owned it's own trout pond for the last few yrs.

You know where we need to be on opening day Tin....we've discussed it for these very reasons.  We need to commit to it this yr.  Maybe get a push pole to get in the back?

Oops, I zapped your post by accident, sorry. :D

10 minutes of my time, gone to waste.... ;D

And Russ, please tell me that is sarcasim....That place has 10 pounders in it, just like how the Indians told the stoires about how it is bottomless and the monster that resides there has a gem inbetween its eyes. (Western Coventry folklore)

O and I heard of 2 fish around 9 (saw 1 pic) coming out of there this year. Next spring when it is flooded I will get my boat in there and will be using swimbaits. Despite all the native trout, it seems like they love the eels in there. All the big fish come on 10-12" worms, old school. 8-)

And forget about getting a 10-7, I know there are fish int he 12 pound range in there.

wow look at that pickeral. Must have been some fight.

The smallie record seems the most obtainable.

good luck

It was an unbelievable battle :D Thought I had shattered the SM record for sure.....that is until I felt no head shake and she swam lickty split directly under the boat. :-/

I was disappointed and yet thrilled to land her on 10# test

Muddy is just stirring the pot,lol there were no secrets in it

I don't care about the secret. I haven't been fishing w/him in a month due to his sheath issue, and his replies are the next best thing to having him in the boat and "accidently" :D almost knock me over board  ::P

I just said how the smallie record won't fall be smallie populations are dropping. The only places I know of that can kick out a 6 pound smallie is Wachaug (I saw a dead one there that was over 6), or Indian. There are very few quality smallies in Stafford. But places like Johnsons and Tiogue still have some decent sized smallies. I have seen 4 smallies come out of Johnson's all of which were over 2.5. Tiogue has some monsters, one night I was pulling the boat out and a guy had a smallie that might have gone 5.

The largie record will fall before the smallie record does and it will come out of Wordens, the northern end of Johnsons, or 2 oher places. One of these places kicked out 2 fish over 9 this year and I saw a pic of one of them.

If Beach Pond was controlled by RI, I would say both records would come out of there.

Thanks for reposting!

The SM record will fall 1st and hoping to prove you wrong by 2009. My quest will start this wekend and it will come from Watchaug in 14' of H2o :D

Didn't realize that Johnson's had quality SM. I've only seen a bunch of dinks and a few 2lber's.

I am dont really know RI waters that well, but that largemouth record seems like it will fall especially with all you swim bait guys catching these giant bass.  Its just a matter of time before one of you hooks up with the new record.
