Super User Tin Posted October 1, 2008 Super User Posted October 1, 2008 Tin and I agree that there has been cold fronts one after another all year on the weekends. Thats my excuse I think the cold fronts this spring messed things up. Starting in April we would have a week in the mid to upper 60's and warm nights so the fish would get ready to move up, you would see cruisers, then bam. Friday comes and the weekends would bring a cold 50 degree rain and cool the water right down so they would move back on. This continued every week until almost the end of May. Since then, nothing has been normal. But then again, what is "normal" in New England. : Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 It's been hot and cold this year with the amount bigguns caught on the low side. The Fall bite has been on but not quite as expected. Caught a donzen fish last Friday, biggest around 5lbs on swimbaits in a weedy shallow RI pond, caught 10 fish on swimbaits, and spider grubs Tuesday, biggest around 4lbs, but only where there was moving water,i.e. streams,inlets/outlets. As stated above the cold fronts definately affect there patterns. Cold fronts usually means slow your presentation and down size your lures. But what do I know? Quote
masssilversrt4 Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 I got a 4lber Tuesday on a local pond. At work bite has been off/on one day i'll get a few dinks or a 1-2lber other days not even a bite.. This weather sucks.. hopefully this weekend will be nice.. Quote
Cousin Vinny Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Its supposed to stable out weather wise over the next week. I guess we will see. Stabilize maybe, but its gonna stay cool, at least from what I saw. I'm in lower Fairfield County, near the sound and they're saying low 50s in the AM to the low 60s during the day. Even a couple of upper 40s in the overnight. I've gotten use to carrying my pole and lures with me all the time and I love to try those discrete unfished private ponds (and try not to get thrown out) that look like bass heaven. But I've been getting simalar results as you for the better part of the year except for 1 private pond i got permission to fish at. That one yeilded 18 inchers most times with alot of smaller ones but then recently, I got nothing there. Kinda weird. I may have to accept the fact that the largest bass i will see is on the ESPN Bassmaster elite series. I was up at 4:AM today and thats what I watched. :'( Quote
89MJ Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 I was doing alright until about 2 weeks ago. The past 3 times I went out I caught one pickerel and thats it. I am also fishing from the shore. Quote

bassinri Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 The salt air has been callin me too...Naw gotta go Bass fishin'. I did talk to a buddy and Bluefish are still swarming all over Narragansett bay. He was at Conimicut Point in Warwick last night and a huge school of Blues came by 2 times within an hour. Quote
Cousin Vinny Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 The strippers and the blues were awsome this year down here. I bought my first boat this summer and everyone has told me this was a great year to have bought a boat. (19 ft trophy w/ 150 merc OB). Diamond jigging is the way to fish in this part of the season and since the blues are moving on, it'll be mostly strippers now. But this past weekend I tried 2 new spots (from shore at ponds) in Ridgefield Ct. Same luck as usual. A couple of keepers but nothing crazy. Though I believe these spots will be awsome come the spring. It was still a great time and a guy I never met let me and my son take his Jon boat out on one of the lakes. That was real nice of him so I gave him my cell and told him if he was ever down near the sound to give me a shout and maybe head out on my boat When it gets warm again, i hate the cold) Quote
