fishing lake champlain

Every year with my grandfather and my whole family i go up too Lakechamplain for two weeks. I turned fourteen this year and have gone for the last 4 years and most of the time I have gone for smallmouth bass. But in my home in maryland I only am able to fish 1 public pond. So for the fourth year in a row we are having a family fishing tournament. Now for my question since I normlly fish for largemouth in a pond i have also noticed how much harder it is to locate the fish but each year I've come up there in the sameplace. But I am asking what types of lures work well for cattail like plants coming out of the water there are two near the place we stay so I go to them a lot. so I am asking what types of lures should I use for cover like floating grass, cattails, wood lilypads, the whole nine yards. I have caught bass at the five pound mark but I would like to see if anyone can shed any light on lures that would work in this kind of situation. hope this wasent to long and hope I can get some anwsers thanks.

I used to live on Champ. What part of the lake are you going to? If you dont now the name of it, then can you at least tell me if it is North, Middle, or South? All parts of the Lake fish differently IMO.

If your fishing grass no matter where it is on the lake you want to go with either a 1/8 or 1/4 oz t-rigged Green Pumpkin Brush Hog or an eggbeater over the top of it at any time. If you find yourself fishing rocks drop-shot or t-rig a 4" fading watermelon slim senko.

Look for weedy flats that drop off near the creek channel, and throw jig and grubs to the weedline on the dropoff. I also would head up that river and throw crankbaits on the dropoff of the creek channel, near bends in the channel, and flip some docks whiule youre up there. If you can fly over to Burlington, drop-shot the shipwrecks on the main lake side of the wave wall. Flip jigs all along that marina, and chartruse/blre crankbaits also, being as it is a busy port on the lake, and the big ships stuir up the water. Good luck, and TIGHT LINES!

Thats just dangerous. Plattsburg has hardly and shelter and if you get a good north or south wind blowing your gonna be in trouble. Find a couple creeks because the big main lake stuff can kick your butt. It c kick up in a heartbeat.
