Well I was planning on fishing the pits with our secondary get together this weekend but my wife had different plans.  She said she wanted to go to Milford to catch some smallies and wipers.  Long story short, we are camping at Milford Fri-Sun.  Last time we were there we had a blast.  Fuel line broke but we just used the trolling motor in the cove we camped and still caught a ton of whites and wipers.

I don't know I would fish Melvern at gun point until the weather is a few days past us. Fishing was very, very thin yesterday.

I can say the Live Target Baitball is an amazing Drum bait, which is odd because the Smallies are typically up 10 feet or so from where Drum are caught. The only Smalls caught were caught on Megabass Flap Slap and Flukes on the slowest of slow retrieves.

I find it interesting to read the Melvern posts. We fish the lake from the west end to the east, rarely use the baits other regulars talk about but see the same fish.

The place is truly an amazing lake.

A lot of my fishing has been on the west end of the lake lately and I have found the fishing to be very good there. Haven't even had a reason to visit the dam

I'm working on learning that end of the lake as well. The furthest east any of our fish we weighed in were from around Arrow Rock and out biggest was from Turkey Point. There really aren't any bad areas on that lake. I even caught a solid fish out in the middle of a cove by launching a trap as far as I could to try to clear a over run and was reeling very fast to make a cast. The numbers of fish in that lake are incredible.

Hi guys,

My buddy and I are looking for a good place to do some bank fishing this weekend. Since we don't have a boat it's tough to find a good place to go. We are mainly interested in catching fish not that we wouldn't love to pull in some big ones. I have recently learned about the following private fishing camps around the area and was wondering if anyone has any experience with any of them or other suggestions? Really appreciate the help we need a good get away to catch some fish!

This is probably the best place to get started. Has a ponds and small lakes listed that offer bank fishing.

Heritage Park in Gardner. You will only need weightless plastics.

Thanks guys. I have checked out most of those places but without a boat it is tough to find a good spot plus I am in a wheelchair that makes it even more difficult. Can you recommend an area at heritage park?

For anybody needing a cheap casting rod, I've got a 6'6" Med gen 1 abu Garcia vendetta with the tags still on it I'm trying to get rid of for $30. Bought it this summer and decided I didn't really need it, but then walmart would not take it back.

I'm sorry I misspoke when I said Heritage. Although you would have great access to that lake, I would go to Celebration Park in Gardner. Easy access and fish can be caught where ever there is water.

Went down to Melvern with my dad this past weekend.....we got a late start and didn't get to the water until 10:00 or so.   Boy we knocked the fire out of em for an hour and a half.  My dad isn't exactly a bass fisherman and spent most of his time chucking a squarebill....even he had his fair share.  Most of mine came on a t rigged Rage Craw in green pumpkin.  I absolutely love that lake....we didn't have any real big ones, but we sure did have good numbers.

Do you need a boat for this lake or is there some good bank fishing you can recommend?

All good bank fishing, google maps gives you a great view of the area.

Sunday after the fall get together, Chris and I stayed to fish an extra day. We had decided on fishing Chanute City Lake but they don't allow boats on the water on Sunday so off we went to Cedar Valley. Chris had never fished there and I hadn't been there this year or during the fall so wasn't sure what to expect. I warned Chris that it was a quality lake, not quantity, then they went and proved me wrong. Not only did we catch a bunch of solid fish, we had in the neighborhood of 30-40 fish between the two of us, closer to 50 if you count all my catfish and our 2 drum  :laugh5:  We started slow, trying to force feed them jigs, which they weren't interested in. We both caught one on a jig before I started fishing one of my bladed jigs, it was on after that. I fished my Spicy Shad color and Chris threw Code Black and that was all we needed for the rest of the day. Some of them were really light bites, and some were about jerking the rod out of our hands. We both missed several and I had some that I just couldn't catch up with or keep down that jumped and tossed my bait that were really good quality fish. Weather was less than perfect but the fishing more than made up for it.

Heading to Table Rock (Indian Point area) for a few days.  Won't have a ton of fishing time, but I'll probably sneak out early in the mornings for a few hours at a time.  Will post a report if I do any good.

Bluebasser86,

Looks like you guys had a great day. You mentioned Chanute lake, I am originally from Chanute, never had much luck at that lake though. Is that lake in Garnett? Do you think we could find any descent bank fishing spots I could get to for some decent fishing?

I fished Bone Creek Wednesday and Cedar Creek Lake Thursday. The crazy weather on Wednesday made it pretty tough at bone. It really sucked when I noticed it was getting ready to start raining and I realized both pairs of my rain gear were at home in the garage  :'( . We still managed to catch a bunch of fish but nothing over 18 inches. Wish I could find the bigger fish in that lake! Cedar Creek was at least 2 feet high after all the rain but still pretty clear. All the standing timber in that lake makes it interesting to fish to say the least. I caught fish on tubes, cranks, worms, and spinnerbaits but again nothing over 18 inches. I did have one crush a 100 series bandit then see how many laps around a tree it could swim before my line broke. Going to go back to Bone Creek next Wednesday and probably Banner Creek Thursday. If I figure out how to post pictures and I catch anything worth showing I'll put them on here!

The start of it!!

Very limited shoreline access at Cedar Valley, and it has steep, rocky shorelines where it does have access from the bank. Either of Garnett's city lakes would be decent options though.
