Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 20, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 20, 2014 Any word on the Mondo thing? I just need to know what day and time works best for everyone and I will get the ball rolling with Raymond. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 20, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 20, 2014 Well I just checked out the lake and I also happen to be an avid catfisherman and seeing the flats and blues makes me really want to go I've caught flatheads up to 42 pounds while fishing for wipers. It gets fished alot for flatheads and they all get kept so it's hard for them to get as huge as they could. The blues get good sized but not like Milford or the Kansas river. Of course it's home to some of the biggest bass in the state too. It's also a very tough lake that doesn't give up any of those fish easily. Quote
Jond6236 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 That's a shame people keep them it takes decades for them to grow 30+ Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 20, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 20, 2014 That's a shame people keep them it takes decades for them to grow 30+ Flatheads actually grow rather quickly, especially in a warm water environment with abundant food sources like La Cygne. The problem is that it's not a huge lake and it gets fished almost every day of the year. Flatheads have a pretty wide range when they're on the hunt so it's just a matter of time before they cross a baited hook. With a daily limit of 5 per person it doesn't take long to put a dent in the population. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 20, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 20, 2014 Nice, I like that lake although the biggest I've pulled out of there would only go 3 1/2. I used to fish out there a lot by myself and with my buddy Travis (dodgeramwax). We caught some really nice fish out of there in the years after they reopened it. I've caught them up to 5.5, he's caught a couple 6 or 6.5 I believe. Right after it opened back up a friend of a friend caught one just over 9 out of there. I've seen the fish, it's hanging on his wall unfortunately. It could have stayed an amazing little lake but they just didn't take care of it and the bucket fisherman have taken their toll on the lake. Used to be able to go out there with a spinnerbait or squarebill and catch 20-50 fish with a lot of them in the 2-4 pound range, not anymore. Quote

I'm not sure if I've ever seen a lm bass caught out there. 2 Quote
Ondrejka Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Pretend like your walleye fishing and you'll catch channel cats at hillsdale. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a lm bass caught out there. When I first moved to KS in 2000 all we fished/boated was Hillsdale. I caught a few Largemouth way back then. My old man rarely fishes Hillsdale anymore, but he was out this weekend drifting the flats with crawlers for Walleye and caught 3 cats. Biggest going 11 lbs. So that's definitely true. Quote
Rhino68W Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Pottawatomie State lake No. 1 Went fishing there the morning of 16AUG2014. Weather was great, slight breeze and overcast skies. Caught 7 total fish in about 4 hours all on a topwater frog pulling it in from the bank. 3 of them were good sized. Quote

Super User Hi Salenity Posted August 21, 2014 Super User Posted August 21, 2014 I honestly don't remember? I know you can link with Facebook and it will use your FB profile pic. I upload my pics with Photobuket and I'd say I used that to resize? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 21, 2014 Global Moderator Posted August 21, 2014 Does anyone have any tips on Hillsdale? Last year I did pretty well at Hillsdale every time I went. Most of them were short fish but I did get one that was 4.5. Most of my fish were either on a buzzbait,black/red beaver bait, or a black/blue 10" worm. I do best on the west side of the lake and usually in pretty shallow water, especially on points. 1 Quote
RangerDanger Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I have no idea how to access those Knock on doors. Farm pond fishing is a good time. Many won't let you have access any longer for liability reasons and the drought may have hurt may of the smaller ponds. Oh, and remember to hide that Johnson County license plate. 2 Quote

I would love to tag into some nice wipers or smallies. Any suggestions on where to start? Smallies: just comb the dam with a squarebill. You'll run into a few I'm sure. Wipers: basically anywhere you can find heavily concentrated bait. Anywhere off of the flats (east of the beach). I've been finding more schools of bait deeper off the flats, but once that sun starts to set, shad will be busting everywhere with whites/wipers mixed in. You could literally be throwing a turd and still catch them. Let me know if you make it out Saturday as I'll probably be out also. 1 Quote
