Tulsa is as close as I can get. When I decide to go South for a fishing trip I head for Lake Fork.

I grew up in SW Oklahoma.  Lawton, Chickasha, Elgin, Anadarko were my stopping grounds.  Now I'm just North of Big D.  Fish Texoma often, and sometimes up into SE OK like McGee Creek.

Hey bighead,Mike,FLip, and E-3. Didn't think there would be even this much of a response. I'm in Lawton myself, retired here from the military 10 years back. I've fished most of the lakes here local but the past couple years have found myself driving over to McGee Creek Lake. It's a 3 1/2 hour drive from Lawton so don't get over there as much as I like but have really developed quiet an attraction towards that lake. I'm still figuring out that lake but it looks very promising and I've seen others pull out a few trophies.

flipin, McGee Creek is probably the biggest "sleeper" lake that we have in Oklahoma.  It's so isolated that it gets very little pressure.  I've heard lots of good things about "The Creek," but I've never fished it.  One day soon I hope to.

Flipin, I'm a grad of Eisenhower HS and Cameron U.  Lived out in Wyatt Acres.  Moved down here after school but still make it back from time to time.  Dad didn't have a boat but took me out to the mountains and we tore um up in those little lakes.  McGee is a geat lake.  My club hits it from time to time and we always have a good trip.  I'm going to fish the Future Bass trail with my son this year so we'll be hitting Hugo, Murry, and Texoma in addition to McGee.  Keep your eyes open on the board as there are a few others from SW OK on here.  Bert

I live in OKC, but I fish the lakes down south more than any others. Especially in the early spring. Our first tournament is on Murray. I like McGee creek too, but prefer Texoma,  Arbuckle, or Longmire to the SE lakes. I've never been to Latonka, but I here it has some good fishing. You ever been on McGee Creek when the bass were schooling? Lots of fun.

Welcome to the board Brian. Well, I'm impressed....seems to be more folks from the Sooner state on here than I thought. Hey Mike and Dances, I'm not an expert on McGee yet. I only started fishing it a couple years ago and being 3 1/2 hours west I've only been there four times. Never during the spawn but I hope to fix that this year.

Hey Brian, you need to hook that boat up and hit the road on your days off. I've never fished the lakes up north but I like what I've seen down in the southeast. McGee, Sardis, and Broken Bow all look good.

haha i wished i was closer to those lakes. maybe if get a new jon boat or get my javelin fixed , i might make a couple of trips down to those great lakes.

What's wrong with your Javelin Brian?

You rang?  ;D

Yesterday there was a tourney on McGee, not sure how they did but they did have a big turnout.

It was my first day on the lake this year( McGee). I didn't have much for luck. Spent the entire day and caught some but nothing worth telling a fishing story about. lol

Been fishing McGee for many years and IMO the fish have always had an attitude..  ;D

Water temp was 57-61, and finally had a day with some light winds, welll until late afternoon, the gust were picking up. I dunno why I didn't catch anything bigger then my foot, I guess I'll blame it on the  strong storm forecasted late Saturday night..

Next weekend looks like Pine Creek or Hugo lake, if the weather and winds hold out..

I enjoy living in the middle of these lake, McGee is almost in my backyard, Sardis and Eufaula are a very short drive to the north, then out east is Hugo and Pine creek, Texoma lake is just about in my front yard.. lol and to the west there are a few. The eastern lakes IMO are better, if not for the fish then the views..

Hang in there Brian. I caught this one Saturday up on a known bedding area along with a couple of smaller males. A front came through that afternoon and when I tried again Sunday I didn't see a one. I think the spawn will be slow and long this year in Oklahoma.

nice bass man, i went last week to do a lilttle bank fishing at lake burtshi near chickahsha, i caught about 5 in about 20 min. they all in the shallow water preparing nest.          i was using  a 1/8 white chatter bait.

If you folks haven't been hitting the beds you're missing out. I've seen countless bass bedding on a couple of favorite holes around here. Started the week using worms, throwing them over the beds then working them slow to the beds. Come Tuesday they lost interest in the worms and were busy chasing bluegill off their nests. We switched to Hoodaddies and lizards and the bass found these to be more intimidating. All in all had a productive week and I think we'll still see more of them moving in to bed.
