Super User Tywithay Posted January 6, 2015 Super User Posted January 6, 2015 What blanks do you have in mind? Moving baits or bottom contact stuff? Nice additions by the way! Bottom contact, jigs and t-rigs for the Zillion, finesse jigs for the Vanquish. Been looking at NFC IM blanks, but still really eyeballing a K2 for the Vanquish. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted January 6, 2015 Super User Posted January 6, 2015 Has the ice melted yet? Not yet and the ice is getting expensive! I picked up another Megabucks rod today and have 2 more Edge rods coming Tomorrow. And I've got $225 of swimbaits coming from Japan. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Finally got around to re-assembling the Chronarch 101B with the addition of the Yumeya shallow spool. Still haven't fished it, well for that matter I still haven't even spooled it with line. I can't decide if I want to use a rod I already have or if I need to pick up a new one. 3 Quote

Super User aavery2 Posted January 6, 2015 Super User Posted January 6, 2015 Has the ice melted yet??? Buying some blanks to start making custom rods for each of these probably later this week. So what do you think of the Zillion? Maybe just a quick out of box kind of thing. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted January 6, 2015 Super User Posted January 6, 2015 So what do you think of the Zillion? Maybe just a quick out of box kind of thing. The clutch is solid, the retrieve is very smooth. All in all it feels much more solid than the Tatula. I'm going to tear it down and look at the internals soon, that will give a little more insight. Quote

Been looking at NFC IM blanks, but still really eyeballing a K2 for the Vanquish. Sounds like very wise choices. I have been considering going the custom route for almost two years now. Got turned off by local custom builder who's custom rods looked gaudy, saltwaterish, and overall less than pleasing to the eye. Spent hours talking to him and a half day touring his "facility". He is as smart as they come and does a good job with building and utilizing quality components but I shyed away after seeing the finished product and costs. I have some ideas but more research will need to be done. Ideally I would like a black and gold themed rod and one with black and royal purple. Good luck with the builds and throw up a few photos once they are completed if you remember. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Finally got around to putting this little guy back together as well. As with my other recently completed CH 101B reel I haven't "tested" this one either but I hope to before to long. Just have to decide on a rod for it. I made numerous changes; Core 7:1 gears, Core clutch bar, Carbontex drag, ARB pinion bearing, added two additional bearings per knob, "upgraded" Shimano spool bearings, and of course the Yumeya BFS MG spool. I decided to do an "all Shimano" BFS reel so I stuck to using only Shimano parts except for the drag washers. Not really sure where the idea came from but I just wanted to see how it would turn out so here it is. 7 Quote

You have done all those great mods to your sweet little 50, you might as well finish up with an aluminum CU201E drag star.I just put that spool in an XT1000 and if you haven't used it yet, you are in for a treat when you throw unweighted plastics. That spool is pure magic! Quote
thehooligan Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Nice little reel there, a core 51 dragstar looks even better 1 Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Thanks for the replies fella's but I actually like the matching green drag star. Also the fact that it's plastic doesn't bother me either. I'm looking forward to fishing with this one as soon as I find the "right" rod. I thought I had that part figured out but I was surprised at the amount it costs to ship a one piece rod from Japan. So much for that and I don't really like the idea of a two piece so I'm still searching. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 9, 2015 Super User Posted January 9, 2015 You might consider talking with Mike at DVT about building a custom. He built one for me last year and it is impressive! Quote

Thanks guys for the kind words. It's nothing fancy like some of the gear shown here but I'm more of a performance over appearance kind of guy anyway so this reel fits my personality. Don't get me wrong, some of the Aldies & Core 50's with those sky blue dress up parts look amazing I'd rather spend that money on other things. You might consider talking with Mike at DVT about building a custom. He built one for me last year and it is impressive! I've thought about going this route, I might just have to get in touch with him. Thanks for the suggestion. Quote
hzzhangc Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Got two shimanos as soon as my wife left the country for a two month trip. Also got a few pairs of knobs to match the spools on TDZ. 6 Quote

Kidflex Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Here's a couple of new rods I just got. Of course I didn't need them but I haven't tried any of these so I figured why not. Not sure why everyone complains about the villain reel seat. Pretty comfy to me but hours of use will tell the truth. Fenwick has always been good for me and the elite tech bass is no exception in the fit and finish dept. exo is super light and will be my new frog rod. The falcon is for the 10xd's I plan on throwing this year. The tatula ml is pretty nice. Side by side comparing it to my glx 843cbr, bend, weight and balance are very similar. How it handles with bait and with fish to be determined. Hopefully soon. 1 Quote

Kidflex Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Hey let me know how the new Fenwick ET Bass rods are, the Smallmouth version was super awesome. Will do. This is a 6'6" med rod. All my fenwicks(hmg, aetos) are on the heavier side both action and feel so I wanted to get a light in hand rod. Paired up with a smoke reel. Feels great but needs to get bent! Quote

I own the 6'9 M/XF Spinning and the 6'10" M/F. If i knew about them earlier I would've probably had a lot more. I also have 7' M/F Spinning Aetos and 7'6" H/XF Aetos. All four just are awesome. Most of my outings both spinning rods are with me. They are my staples of my arsenal. To me they fish fish just as well as my Avid (ET Series) and I'll even say they are close to my previous generation Cumara. The Aetos slightly better. I hope they kept the same formula on the new line! Quote
