The Green Meanies....

Indeed !

Although, I think some Conquest gold in a 50 size would work on those rods as well. Will have to do some reel rotation later in the season...

The Hooligan has some very tricked out JDM stuff, and there are a couple other guys on here too! But yea, hooligan takes a great reel and super freaks it out!

How you like it ?

Performance is great. It's very smooth and casts unbelievably well. A few cons, the drag star is very cheap looking (hoping the KP star will be available); the reel foot is not recessed, so it sits fairly high on the rod. Despite how small it is, this makes it palm a little funky. The side plate has a very sharp edge to it, which actually makes it somewhat uncomfortable during certain applications. The knobs have a nice texture and the cork looks cool, but they're very awkward shaped because they flare out too much on the ends. It makes holding those uncomfortable when doing finesse techniques, like weightless plastics, because I don't really grip the whole grip, I usually lightly hold the ends. Overall I am please with the reel, but it's far from my favorite reel. Fortunately, I got it pretty cheap (relative to the MSRP), but I wouldn't even consider paying more than $300 for it.

That's a NICE bass...

Hmmm - CU50/51E reel on an NRX...sounds like a great idea...

It's like Loomis had the CU50E in mind when they made the green NRX. It's a shame that they quit making it and I am still kicking myself in the butt for selling mine!

You Guys are somethin..!! That handle is neat! I really like the handle nut retainer or whatever it's called, with 2 screws? Looks very symetrical, very nice rigs!

New rod was finally completed Friday, so I got to bring my new outfit home, after stopping by one of my Smallmouth spots a breaking it in rite. Within 1 hour if its birth it landed its first Smallmouth, a 14" on a green punkin zoom tube with a 1/16 oz tube hook. Now I'll start thinking about the new rod to put my new Ci4+ 1000FA on, gonna talk to Gary at NFC Monday??? _MG_0896-II_zpsf987c5a6.jpg_MG_0890-II_zps6860efd8.jpg_MG_0898-II_zps8001df29.jpg_MG_0888-II_zps8a4be22e.jpg

It really is a match made in heaven both in terms of looks and function IMO.  I definitely have big plans for that reel, and it just flat out belongs on that rod.  The whole package is just so incredibly light and palms so well...  One-handed surgical strikes all day.  Such a joy across the board.  I seriously hope I will have that setup forever.

This is almost all my bass fishing gear in one spot... I don't have much, besides my old bantams, diawas, pistol grip rods, and old lures!

I used to be a shimano guy but finally decided to go all Daiwa route. Got  a few Daiwa reels recently and also tried some aftermarket spools. There is a ZPI RC-002 spool on TD Z which remind me the DC system on shimano reel. Basically set the brake to 4 and free the spool tension knob you can cast without thumbing. The nice thing over the shimnao DC is you can totally turn the brake off and also be able to handle much lighter baits. The alphas has a megabass zonda BFS spool on one alphas but didn't have chance to try it yet.

Not making light of the thread. I was digging around in the garage today and come across one of my old setups, this is a Shimano Bantam Mag Plus 25OXsg XHS. This was the big dog super high speed reel, had a blazing fast gear ratio of 5.1:1, the main gear is about the size of a quarter and it has 1 bearing, the rod is a Pistol Grip Shakespeare 5'6" med action grahite composite. This was how we use to get it done, this reel will still cast a 3/8oz spinnerbait 30 yards. Looking at this setup, almost makes me embarrassed at the money I have tied up in new high tech graphite rods and improved reels. Anyway just wanted to share.

I have one of those! love it too.It needs a rod at the moment. I also have a similar vintage Black Mag with the little hood you open over the front. Bought it as a combo from Bass Pro back a long long time ago. Sheese! Must be pushing 30 years or so. Mid 80s maybe?

I would post mine, but a $180 setup doesn't compare to the others.

Post away, I am sure we would all enjoy seeing what your fishing with.

While there will always be someone with nicer gear than you, I don't think a $180 combo is anything to scoff at either!  Besides...  It's the indian, not the arrow  :eyebrows:

Ain't that the truth! I have 10 very tricked-out reels w/ custom rods, with well over $4000 invested in them-but my dad usually outfishes me with one worn-out Shimano combo from 1987. :laugh5:
