manavoodoo Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Hi guys, I just purchased this reel and am trying to make it a right hand retrieve. The problem is the little plastic cover that screws on the opposite side of the handle doesnt fit. It only fits on the right side for the left hand retrieve. What gives?? Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted March 4, 2011 Super User Posted March 4, 2011 Righty Tighty-Lefty Loosy??? I just got the 6720 2 days ago and made it right hand retrieve but dont know if the 6730 is the same. Quote
manavoodoo Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 According to the Pflueger site all Presidents are left/right. May give them a call in the morning. Quote
ROCbass Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Did you cross-thread it when you tried to put the cap on the left? My only Pflueger reel is an older 4730 Trion, but the cap screws on both sides no problem. Quote
manavoodoo Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 Its not cross-threaded. Its not even catching anything to screw on to.Its acting like the cap is too big for the left side. Quote
manavoodoo Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 After trying to figure this out for a few hours I might have an idea. I don't think the the thread from the reel side comes out far enough towards the lip. The cap isnt deep/long enough to catch the thread. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Pflueger reels thread directly onto the main gear they don't have a nut on the opposite side like most spinning reels. There is only a cap on the opposite side from the handle. I don't believe it threads onto anything. YOu have to hold the spool while you thread the handle into the main gear. Quote
manavoodoo Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 No problem getting the handle on the right side. The only problem is getting the cap to stay on the opposite side. Quote
7mm-08 Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Man that stinks. I have that exact reel and use a right-handed retrieve and had no problem with the cap fitting on the left side. :-/ Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 4, 2011 Super User Posted March 4, 2011 Just call them, and ask for help: Toll Free: 1-800-334-9105 Quote
manavoodoo Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 I called Pflueger. They said the thread must be stripped and to take it back to the retailer. I hope the bait monkey doesn't get in my ear when I'm there! Quote
manavoodoo Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 Sorry Francho I was 2 minutes late with my update. Thanks guys. I was thinking it could be me at first. Quote
