Mr.Sheephead Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 already have spinning rods for your fishing? if so get the higher end baitcaster if not get mid priced spinning and baitcaster i shore fish so i carry 2 rods a spinning G.loomis imx fast action for all my bass fishing lures and sometimes panfish lures and my G.loomis GLX baitcaster for my bigger bass lures, topwater frogs, or the same lures i would use on the spinning rod but use on the baitcaster if im fishing heavy cover and need the extra power or just to get the extra power! bigfruits Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 you already have other set ups so get the nicest you can afford. buy something to use with jigs and plastics. id go with an avid. Quote
Northern Strain Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 The truth is that you can't buy fishing success. Expensive rods are fun but you can still get quality rods for $80-$100. Compres and mojos are great rods, made by great companies and they won't let you down. Bass don't care how much your rod costs. You are better off spending time on learning techniecs than spending time worrying about how much money you will spend on a rod. Since you are on a budget and don't have a constant supply of money save up buy some decent lures and practice, after all the lure is what the bass wants. There will be plenty of time to buy expensive rods and reels in the future. You have to remember that companies are always coming out with the latest and greatest, and as soon as they do that will be what you want. Get a good rod then get some expierence. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted June 18, 2010 Super User Posted June 18, 2010 Don't overlook the Falcon Bucoo rods, just picked one of them up and I am very impressed with it. I have a Citica 200e on it, nicely balanced, light and sensitive. They sell for $100 or $110 depending on length. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 18, 2010 Super User Posted June 18, 2010 Here is a list of Quality Reels & Rods @ a reasonable price http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1246369553/ Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted June 18, 2010 Author Super User Posted June 18, 2010 Thanks for your opinions and suggestions guys! that was my first post and i feel so welcomed! But i think i've got it narrowed down to the st.croix rods, mainly because bass pro doesn't carry Powells or Dobyns (and im paranoyed about ordering online, i only buy in store) i could probably get : ~2-3 Triumphs ~1 mojo (which ive noticed doesn't have cork in front of the reel seat) ~1 Premier ~ or JUST ENOUGH for 1 Avid. which looks really nice.. Are there day and night differences between the poles? What is there build quality depending on where there manufactured? have you had problems with a certain one? Please tell me your opinion!!! thanx! Quote
Stasher1 Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I have a Triumph and a Premier hanging on the rack next to each other, and don't see a nickel's worth of difference between the two. Now, between the Premier/Mojo/Triumph and the Avid? World of difference. The Avid just blows them away. Quote

Stasher1 Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 That decision would be entirely up to you. They're built on the same blank, so there shouldn't be a sensitivity difference between the two. The main difference between them is country of origin. The Premier is built here while the Triumph is built in SC's plant in Mexico. I'd suggest making the trek to your local BPS and giving each rod a closer look. Compare them side-by-side and see if you notice any differences in build quality between the two. If you're in the Atlanta area you're more than welcome to try out the Triumph I keep in my truck, as long as it's ok with your folks. Quote

I thought Triumphs were made for st.croix, rather than made by st.croix in china. And mojo's were Mexican, and Premiers American. but who knows i could be wrong! And thanks for the offer!! but i live in Virginia... so ya. haha Quote

ST. CROIX VALUE. KEEPING IT ALIVE IN NORTH AMERICA. Of course, there are only so many hands in Park Falls, Wisconsin and over the years, the undeniable value of St. Croix rods has meant more and more people have wanted to fish one. Which means every year, more and more rods leave Park Falls for waters throughout the world. Well, it's gotten to the point where we simply can't make enough in our Park Falls factory. It's a small town. (And we'd like to keep it that way.) Faced with a decision of opening another factory or outsourcing to Asia, we concluded the only way to insure a St. Croix rod remains a St. Croix rod was to construct a second factory in Fresnillo, Mexico. If you happen to be traveling through Fresnillo, you'll find an almost mirror facility to our state-of-the-art Park Falls operation same equipment, same manufacturing procedures and the very same quality control protocols. Our Fresnillo facility manufactures a select group of rods that are designed and engineered here in Park Falls. These rods offer the chance for an even greater segment of the fishing population to get their hands on a St. Croix. Rod models currently manufactured in Park Falls will continue to be made in Park Falls. By making sure all our rods are Handcrafted in North America, we are able to continue providing anglers with the best value in angling. Quote
