LCpointerKILLA Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Aww you bought the little tiny ones! well If I were you I would buy some gamakatsu weighted superline EWG hooks in whatever weight you find suitable for what you are doing. By the way, welcome to the forums! Quote

Rob G. Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 The size you bought will outfish the larger ones in a lot of River systems. For here on the Mississippi you got the ticket man. You can rig those on any brand EWG Superline hook, the weighted hooks as mentioned above, or on a jig head with a long shank hook. They work great when fished through or above Eel Grass or other vegetation. Remember these are subtle baits. Long casts can be key, just as with swim jigs. Try to keep your colors near that of the abundant forage in your area. The color you bought is a good all around one though. They also work on Carolina rigs, shakey heads, or drop shot. Quote
HesterIsGod Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Just ordered some from BPS. 3.5 inchers, which i feel is the appropriate length for the smaller bass of Northern illinois and southern wisconsin as well as colder water of the prespawn (when I will start using them). One question, I plan to rig them on jighead or a 1/0 wide gap hook with a small split shot crimped on the shank of the hook. That will work right? Quote
links_man2 Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Got some Bass Magic 4.5 (longest they had) at our local Academy. Haven't caught anything on them yet but really like the action. Liked it well enough to order a variety of colors in the 6.5" size from BPS. As far as rigging, I like the hooks with the screw/spring attached to the eye. I can find them weighted up to about 1/8 oz locally. For heavier weighting, I take a Torpedo Weight (long round with home through center length wise) and use a hack saw to cut down to the hole/center. I then crimp that around a hook that weighs 1/4 oz. Have also used the longer weights that have the rubber core and remove the rubber and crimp that on the hook. I have tried crimping slit shot and the longer weights with the tabs, but they seem to leave too many rough edges to hang on grass/weeds. Quote
