Couple questions regarding spooling. Is it better to have a tackle shop put your line ona spinning reel verses at home??

Also is the berkley spooling machine worth it? or better then manuel?

I always wonder if I'm putting line on right.

Thanks

I just use the line spool box by plano. Works fine, spray KVD L&L every 10-15 turns. And when spooling hold the line before with your fore fingers to add a little pressure.

Will that work for spinning reels? I always thought the spool needed to lay on it's side.

I bought the berkly line spooling station and so did my buddy.  I was hesitant because it got poor reviews.  I have nothing bad to say about it.  It is simple to use by yourself.  He and I can't see why people dont like it.  It works fine.  I believe there is a $5 rebate on it now too.

I was worried about using it on my spinning reels but I did it anyhow and have had no problems.  Works excellent for the baitcaster, too!

For $20-$25, i can't see how you can go wrong.

I used to get MANUEL to do it, but he moved back home to Mexico

I used to do that until I discovered the convenience of using a phone book to assist with the tension. It will free the hand that you use to hold the line. I find that putting the line in only about the upper 1/4 to 1/5 of the book provides sufficient tension.

I prefer to do it myself so that nothing is left to chance. It is then my fault if anything goes wrong.

I love this thing too.I have no idea where those bad reviews are coming from either.I've had mine going on 3 years now.

That line stripper is a handy piece of tool too!

that will depend. for example, some daiwa spinning reels instruct you to spool the line from the bottom of the spool in order for it to work best with their twistbuster roller bearing.

X 2..Lay the spool on it's side..keeping slight pressure on the line as it goes on the reel, be it a spinning, or baitcaster.

I used to have BPS spool up for me, but have switched to doing it manually, by hand.  I feel like I have control, and have had no problems.

You have to read the instructions with each spinning reel nowadays; some require you to lay the spool flat, while others prefer you to roll it on edge-ways, the way you do it with a baitcaster. Shimano is like that. Their anti-twist feature requires it.

I got the Berkley Spooling station on sale at BPS during the Spring Classic for $15 and it has been worth it. Works very well and makes it very easy to spool a reel up by yourself and very quickly I might add.

Use to have BPS spool up my reels as well, but I have switched to doing it myself. This way I can also apply KVD during the process.

Later, :)

I have had a Berkley Spooling Station now for 6 years and it is the best $20 I ever invested in fishing equipment.  It is fast and works great.  Every reel is a perfect line spool.
