froggin question

so ive been fishing quite awhile now mainly using jigs, spinners, and of course senkos. however i found a new lake very local which is full of lilly pads and am told frogs are killer in it. i can honestly say i NEVER fished a frog. so im looking for some pointers and whats the best action rod, and real setup i should use? thanks fellas.

its a bit rough getting into frog fishing. It can be intimidating because of snags and losing baits. I happen to use a tourney special set up. 6ft medium action rod. the reel is 6.3:1.

The reel should be a high gear ratio to get that fish out fast. Many guys suggest using a huge 7ft rod heavy action. I find that using my 6 foot rod I have more control casting and have better contact with my bait. Try going to a sporting goods store if you were looking for something else. They will tell you exactly what you want.

My tourney special setup only cost me $80. Great rod with strength and excellent reel. You do not have to spend a fortune on equipment. Just experiment with recommended stuff. Decide what you like best. Go to Bass Pro shops. They helped me custom design my rod and reel.

OK, this what you need to fish frogs in the slop!  A 7 ft. to 7 1/2 ft. rod. Mh to H action with a x-fast tip! And a high speed reel like a 6:3 to a burner likw a 7:1 with a good drag. And as for line Power Pro or Sufix braid 65 lb.

I have two frog rods,one is to fish frogs like Spro frogs and the other to fish frogs like the horney toads. Both of my rods are 7,6" and a 7,10" H action and a x-fast and the other is a fast tip. I hope that I have helped you!

Go with a baitcaster spooled with 30 pound power pro. Use a 20 pound clear mono leader. A fast ratio reel like the others said is helpful. I would use a 6'6" medium heavy rod with a fast action. If the cover is really heavy and bass over 5 - 6 pounds are pretty common, you can go with heavier braid than 30 pound.

Now if I'm using a popping frog like the spro bronzeye popper or the scumfrog popper, go with straight mono because braid ruins popping actions. Regular old frogs are the only topwaters I will throw on braid. Go with 17 - 20 pound mono. It might be harder to pull a big bass out of the slop with that, but it can be done.

I use a 7' H/F action rod with a 7.0:1 reel with 55lbs Power Pro braid.  Fishing frogs in lily pads is very fun and exciting.

The thing I do is I cast the frog close to the bank and try and get it too land on a pad.  Then I start kinda of moving it over openings between the pads with slight pauses when it comes off the pad and into the opening.  I try working it slowly across.  I use the Spro Bronzeye frogs mainly, but also use some YUM Buzz Frogs.

I use a 7' MH action SPINNING rod! Loaded with 20# test Fireline and 20# test 2' fluoro leader. Have caught a LOT of bass on this inexpensive rig and it has sufficient muscle to bring them out of the junk - most of the time. I do have to go in for them occasionally, but that's rare. I like to use either the Spro Bronzeye or the Hannon Snake. Depending on the type of cover I'm looking at. Works for me!

Main thing about froggin is your LINE dont go light .Braid is prefered YOU TURN THEM HEADS TO GET UM OUT.Bring TP also

7'3 - 7'6 Rod HEAVY Power, don't play around with them if you're fishing heavy cover. Especially from shore. The longer the rod, the longer the casts and more leverage you have over the fish. 7.1:1 Reel, throwing it with a high speed reel has more then doubled my hook ups. and Last 65lb braid.

This is if you're throwing hollow body frogs.

Agreed.  You are adding a point of failure with no net gain.  Absolutely no need for a leader.
