KevO Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I do the same with a solo cup or a 5 gallon bucket. The best part its free. Quote
adclem Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I saw that last weekend and couldn't help but laugh. The bad part I saw 3 or 4 people buying them. Later, Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 29, 2008 Super User Posted October 29, 2008 ripofff! saw that about an hour ago, I thought the same thing! Don't be hating. Put down that ultra-light with 30 pound braid and try out a baitcaster. Quote
jigandpig Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 those things are actually really fun. i got to play around with one at the bass pro in cincinati the other day. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted October 30, 2008 Super User Posted October 30, 2008 I'm sure they will sell a great deal of them....I think this was discussed earlier this month Quote
guitarkid Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I compare this to bottled water. You take something that everyone has, put it in a fancy shiny wrapper and sell it. -sm Quote
Willzx225 Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 On one hand I think the same as everyone else - rip off On the other hand I see it as our sport is growing and parents are starting to see this as a true professional sport where their kid could grow up to be the next KVD. It is kind of like the devices designed to improve a kids swing for baseball. They are fun but they also serve a purpose. JMHO though. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted October 30, 2008 Super User Posted October 30, 2008 They had one set up in the Grapevine store in Dallas last weekend. I grabed a rod and stayed on it for over an hour. It was a ton of fun. I did not buy one though. Quote

TheBeast Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I don't see how it is a ripoff, you don't have to buy it. It's no worse/better than any other procuct a company puts out. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean they're ripping people off. I guess Hardee's and every other restaraunt chain is ripping people off as well. Everyone can make their own hamburgers at home out of a pack of meat and a pack of buns for the same price of two $4 thickburgers you can make 8 on your own. Let me add I don't see me buying one because it is a waste of money for me, I can practice pitching to anything I lay on the ground, but a ripoff it isn't. Quote

Super User Muddy Posted October 30, 2008 Super User Posted October 30, 2008 1. Piece of chalk 2. Draw circle on ground 3. put small target inside circle 0r 1. put tire on ground 2. put a can inside the itre When I was a kid we had a lot of fun and learned a lot of skills on no money; which is what most of our family budgets allowed. 99 bucks for a target to practice casting is not a good idea Quote
pinksquirrel Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Its called us your imagination.....Heck like Muddy said, get your tire & can or chalk & circle....Doesn't cost ya a thing & I'll bet ya be alot happier than the original product....Good idea there Muddy... 8-) Quote
LAO162 Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Sometimes it's about presentation. Try and get a 10yo to move from a Wii to a 5 gallon bucket and tin cans... However, throw in a couple of flashing lights and you might have a chance. For me, a fair price is $39.99 Quote
Super User Muddy Posted October 31, 2008 Super User Posted October 31, 2008 I grew up playing stickball and touch football til we dropped, We didnt play Madden all day inside and getting fat. I learned how to play drums , on drums , not pads that could be programmed: if you wanted to learn a lick you had to listen and paly it. I have issues with electronics that that do it for you and we have issues with childhood obesity, non athletic kids and Flashing lights instead of substance. My job has me dealing with these problems all the time . When you sustitute a machine for a human you loose some stuff. The ability for a mentorship between an older person and the youngsteer starting to learn The feeling of the various seasons against your skin: we have kids at Job Corps who refuse to play touch football, because 52 degrees is too cold and THEY DO NOT WANT TO GET DIRTY??/ Welcome to the digital world, this is the downside , yea thats a bargin if it was only 40 bucks : Quote
TheBeast Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 You work at a Job Corp Muddy? I live a mile awar from one and the general consensus of this one and it has been here as long as I can remember is it is a halfway house for young felons, just where they get to go because they are under 18 and can't go to a regular prison yet. Had a student leave and stole a car from our lot once. Had a guy from the center call and warn us that he had a record for car thieving and to be on the lookout, too late he allready had our nicest Nissan Maxima and gone when we came in that morning. He was sent to the JC because he was only 17 and allready had convictions for nearly 50 stolen cars and had done as many as 7 in one night. The center director was a good friend told us who it was and where he was from and it is only about a 3 hour drive so we went to get our car. We got pulled over by the police there after they got a report that there was a strange car full of men driving around slowly shinning lights and looking for something. That is when we got the real lowdown on this kid from the police. After talking to them we left and went home the car was spotted a day later in a school parking lot and they followed him to a junkyard where he was trying to sell the wheels off it. Oh well that's enough of that. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted October 31, 2008 Super User Posted October 31, 2008 Job Corps is the last of the Great Society programs, left over from LBJ. It is a program for 1.Poverty Level Students , that have failed in tradtional settings. We deal with kids and young adults between the ages of 16 to 24, unless the person is covered by the American Disabilities Act. Our studnets by enlarge ARE NOT YOUNG FELONS, a good portion are, it comes with where and how they grew up. Over 70 % are not felons. This is not correctional or judicated in any way. We work by recruitment and through ONE STOPS to steer kids in need of this program to us. Do some judges say :" JOB CORPS OR JAIL" Yes, but that does not come from our end.SO WHOEVER TOLD YOU A KID WAS SENT TO JC because he STOLE 50 cars was full of major bull doo-doo, MAJOR> I have been working here for 12 years and I know our policy backwards and forwards. We have that stigma here in Hazleton and it breaks my heart to be in town and someone will see my Gvt plates and say " Oh you work on the boot farm with the colored kids" We have a lot of misinformed, ignorant and racist people up here in these mountains We provide an enviorment for these kids to get out of harms way, get good housing and nutrion while learning ,many trades ( leaving with certifciates and in the hard trades UNION APPRENTICE CARDS) medical fields, they can get a GED, HS Diploma and thier first 2 years of college in. A few times congress on both sides of the asile has try to shut us down, but the last time they found for every dollar they put in they got 1.61 out because we are so sucessful at what we do. These are kids already disreguarded as usless and bound for the welfare rolls. We get kids jobs, keep them employable and shrink welfare rolls Hey Beast try not to catoragize these kids, how many cars were stolen that year in your area? How many of those cars, were stolen by a Job Corps kid? Quote
TheBeast Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Don't get me wrong I wasn't meaning to lump them all in that category, but the fact remains a good percentage, according to you 20+% (Over 70 % are not felons) are felons and they do end up there because of the judge saying JC or jail. I don't have a problem with it at all as a whole I think it is a great program and rarely do we have any problems with any of the students and I have live less than a mile from one for over 30 years. Quote
senko_77 Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Great idea. When I saw it on the Bassmaster mag last month I was like...."why didn't I think of that!" I wouldn't drop $100 for it, but for a dad who is trying to make fishing fun for his kids while teaching them how to flip/pitch, it's an excellent idea. Quote
