Noboat Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Do I really need a 5.x:1 reel for crankbaits? Quote
Cajun1977 Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 not at all, but if you are a big time crank thrower then id suggest it cause over time youll be glad, but for a once in a while crank thrower any reel will do fine....what reel are you using now? Quote
djmax22 Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 No, You dont need a 5:1 but I find that it helps with slowing me down. I have a 5:1 on my deep diving crankbait setup. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted April 16, 2008 Super User Posted April 16, 2008 Nope you don't. I don't crank that much anymore, but when I am using deep divers like DD22 etc. 3.8:1, and for mid cranks 10' or less like traps, small fat bodies, etc. 5.1:1.... As stated helps slow me down, I hate trying to slow down a 6.2:1 or higher mostly use those on C-rigs, Jigs, and, T-rigs... Tight Lines!!!! Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 16, 2008 Super User Posted April 16, 2008 Nope, you don 't "need" it but ....... why having to worry to slow down your cadence when a slower reel can do it for you ? all you have to do is crank in the way you always do and let the reel do the rest. Quote
