Mike-in-WV Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Yea I know, This has been beat to death but I thought there may be some new opinions by now. As some of you know one of my favorite lines for my Abu Garcia casting reels is the Cajun Red Cast in #12-#14 and #17 test, Lately I have tried several others including Trilene XL and XT and didn't like either one of them. Tried Vanish too but it seems like I always come back to Cajun Red Cast. Yesterday I was in Walmart looking at the fishing gear and a #1/4 spool of Green #15 test Big Game caught my eye. I have been reading allot about this line and it seems many people really love it so I bought a spool. Yesterday I spooled my Revo S with this stuff and gave it a true test with different weight lures and so on and this Big Game is really good line!! I may have just found a new favorite that will handle Walleye and Bass or anything else I may catch in the Elk River. Yes, I know it has some memory but I have come to the conclusion after all these years that all Mono line has some memory issues. Any of you guy's try the Big Game? What do you think of it? Super User grimlin Posted April 6, 2008 Super User Posted April 6, 2008 After all that hating now you like big game. 15# big game is also my favorite. It's far from the best, but for the money it's decent line. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 6, 2008 Super User Posted April 6, 2008 when i use Big game the last thing on my mind is my line breaking and even more important my KNOT breaking or failing been using BG for as long as its been out never had a break or knot failure Quote
hawgchaser Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 I used to use Big Game and i thought it was a great line. I have been experimenting with different lines lately but BG will serve you well. Quote

Super User Catt Posted April 7, 2008 Super User Posted April 7, 2008 My only choice of mono for the last 20 yrs Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted April 7, 2008 Super User Posted April 7, 2008 Mike, What differences did you notice between Big Game and XT? Quote
The_Natural Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Mike,What differences did you notice between Big Game and XT? XT has a coating that increases abrasion resistance while sacrificing line memory a bit. Quote
Mike-in-WV Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 Mike,What differences did you notice between Big Game and XT? XT acted like a "Slinky" on Steroids and XL had a strange feel to it when casting and not much better. If I had used them longer I may have become used to them but I don't think so. Mike Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 7, 2008 Super User Posted April 7, 2008 Any of you guy's try the Big Game? What do you think of it? Mike Been fishing with Big Game for a little over 2 decades. Quote
TruflShufl Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I bought some 20# for my last tourney. Good, durable stuff. I won't ever put it on spinning gear again though. ;D It'll be my go-to for high-test mono. For lower test I still prefer the trilene maxx, feels quite a bit more manageable. Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I have used Big Game for almost all of my fishing, with the exception of fly-fishing. I have been experimenting with Trilene 100% Flourocarbon for a few months and love it, but it is too darn expensive for me. I have gone back to Big Game for everything except my worm/lizard rod which still has the flouro. I use 12#, 15#, and 20# Big Game for bass. For my first love, catfishing, I use 20# to 60# Big Game. Like some guys that always come back to Stren Original, no matter what I try, Big Game ends up on my reels. I think confidence has alot to do with it. I have only had one fish break off when using Big Game, and that was a HUGE Blue cat on 25#. Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I used to use Big Game and i thought it was a great line. I have been experimenting with different lines lately but BG will serve you well. x2 Quote
Mike-in-WV Posted April 8, 2008 Author Posted April 8, 2008 Last night (evening) I had my first birds nest with this Big Game Green #15 test line and it seemed like it took me longer to get it untangled than any other line I have used. It may have just been me but the line felt softer in a way. It was a good one but I got it un-done.....eventusaly ;D Went to make a cast and let go late and it hit the ground about 15 yards in front of me HARD! , Oh well, that's my one mistake for the year Mike Quote
