SneakySnook Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I'm looking at the curado 100 or daiwa sol for casting light lures so I would like some pros and cons of these reels. If you have some other reel to suggest let me know, thanks. Quote
SteveF Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I personally would choose the Japanese version of the Sol, and that would be the Daiwa Alpha Type-F. I have 5 of these reels as well as 2 of the Sol's all in left handed, and the Alpha by far is my favorite. The Sol is a great alternative to the Alpha, however for about $30 more I find the silver reel with the small upgrades more attractive and a nice fit. I also have 2 of the Zillions and haven't fished them yet, however can already tell that they are going to be for slightly heavier lures. If you can cast it with a spinning rod, you can cast it with an Alpha, and all my Alpha's are on St. Croix Legend Elite rods (EC68MXF) and I absolutely love them. Hope this helps. Steve Quote
12Outlaw Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I use a Shimano Citica 100 paired with a G-loomis 852 Mossyback rod. I throw 3/16 oz shakey head jigs with 10lb fluro with no problem. I have a Curado also but use it as my jig reel. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 29, 2008 Super User Posted February 29, 2008 I have the sol and curado 100. HMMMMMMM. I am currently using the Sol on a 7' Loomis crank bait rod. CBR 843. Med, fast action. I really like this set up. I use it for top water and small cranks, like down to 5'. The Curado though is sweet also and, IMO, may be a tad smoother in casting and distance. I've been using a Fluke on the 100 outfitted w/ a Loomis 7' MBR 843c M/H. It cast effortlessly and far. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I'm not fimilar w/the Curado 100 but the 200 wasn't efficient for the light stuff. I switched to the AG Revo sx and now throw Senko's weightless worms for miles w/o backlash issues fell in love and now purchacing another. This is coming from a long time Shimano fan and user. Nothing says you can't buy one of your choice try it out for a few days and if it doesn't suite your needs return it and try another. I know someone that does this all the time to avoid being stuck with a reel that doesn't suite the application Quote
ThomasL Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I just bought a sol on ebay new for 197.50 shipped and will put it on a falcon cara i picked up new for 79.99 in medium action,it is rated for up to 3/8 oz lures and i plan to use it for small 1/8oz terminator spinnerbaits, bagleys honey b's,rebel deep teeny r's and baits of this size. Also had a citica that i sold, wife couldn't use it well and hope the mag control plus v spool will help in her casting better. One note look at the chronarch mg50 as a alternative but it will cost you 250.00 quick. Quote
surfer Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I would like to know also, but i dont want to cast an uneducated vote just so i can see the results of the polls. It woudl skew the results. Is there any way to see the results without casting a vote. Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 29, 2008 Super User Posted February 29, 2008 From those you have on your list you can add the Chronarch 50 Mg, from those three it 's a tough call between the Chronarch Mg and the Sol for the light stuff, not that the Curado 100 can 't cast light stuff it 's just that the other two do it better. NBR Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I bought a BPS Prolite finesse a year ago and I throw 1/8 oz. jigs with a small twister tail grub or 3" Senkos on 14# flurocarbon just fine. Quote

I know someone that does this all the time to avoid being stuck with a reel that doesn't suite the application The curado 200/201 can toss the lighter things. Here is a pic of my 201 and a homemade lure that I was tossing with it and on a reel whose weight range was 1/2 - 1 3/4 oz. I don't know how my curado 201D casted that little spinner, but it did to my surprise and without an iota of backlash. I don't know the weight of the spinner but it must be somewhere in the 1/8th oz vicinity. I just bought a 101D and I will see if it is even better at tossing lighter stuff. I have seen an STX in action and will it is well capable of dare I say it, even longer casts than my Curado D and the D casts a country mile. Back to the subject, I am hoping the 100D since I now have one. I have yet to try a Daiwa baitcast reel. Surprised no one mentioned the Pixy. 8-) Quote
